Having a nice camping trip with the family requires a spacious camping tent. Just like at home, it is cool to have a nice porch where you can sit and relax. It’s a pretty relaxing home away from home feeling. Most modern family tents have a small compartment that functions as a porch. Of course, most tents have these areas screened to protect you from nuisances like bugs. Here are our top contenders for best camping tents with screened porch options.

Top 10 Camping Tents With Screen Room In 2021

Some Considerations For Purchasing A Camping Tent With Porch

Space And Room Availability

While a small, 2-person tent can show off a screened room, these tents are mostly used by groups and families. When you’re purchasing a tent for a family, always be generous with the space on offer.

Remember you have to put some luggage in the tent too. Rather than stacking luggage and people to make the tent work, go a size bigger. It is not rare for a 6 person tent to be only comfortable for four adults and their luggage.

Many larger tents also offer ways to create rooms. This can offer everyone some privacy. If the rooms have their own doors to the outside, there will also be less disturbance as people move about.

Ease Of Putting Up A Tent And Portability

Larger tents obviously won’t be featherweights, but they certainly should be portable. A lightweight tent isn’t just easy to transport, it is also easy to move from your vehicle to the camping site.

A tent that is easy to set up won’t trouble you too much, and you have to spend countless hours trying to figure it out. It can be a serious problem with larger tents! If you have trouble putting tents up, consider larger pop up tents to make things easier.

Tent Height

Spacious as these tents are, they generally also have a good height. In most cases, you will be able to walk around freely without having to stoop or bend. If you are exceptionally tall, give a thought to tent height.

Weatherproofing And Material Quality

Not all tents are built for all seasons. Some fare better on the beach, while others can do well in winter. Waterproofing to hold out the rain, and a sturdy structure that can stand against the wind is exactly what you want. Even if you’re not expecting any rain, your chosen tent should have some waterproofing to stand against showers.

Quality of stakes needs a second look for most value for money and cheap tents. If you feel the stakes are lightweight or poor quality, invest in better quality stakes. The small amount you spend will be much better than the inconvenience of your tent getting ripped by wind.

There is an inherent limitation to waterproofing on tents that have screened porches. You can’t keep that porch dry in the rain unless you take overly dramatic (and perhaps unnecessary) measures to make it happen. Keep the waterproofing worries to the main cabin of the tent.

It is for the same reason that tents with screen rooms deal with the issue differently. Many tents skip the flooring for the porch, thus saving on packing space, weight, and costs. Although there are disadvantages here, considering that the area is pretty much left to the elements.

Several tents choose the other route and will offer good, waterproof flooring for the porch. Well, it will still get wet in the rain, but it does offer better protection. You may even be able to use this area as an additional room during clear days/nights.

The Best Camping Tents With A Screen Porch

1. Wenzel 8 Person Klondike Tent

Best Camping Tents With Screened Porch - Wenzel 8 Person Klondike Tent

A large, cabin-style tent, the Wenzel 8 Person Klondike Tent can actually fit the advertised number of people. Though if you plan to use cots or queen size air mattresses, take that number down to four. The cabin style also gives it a good height, so people can stand upright inside the tent.

It covers a total area of 11×16-feet and has quite a large screen room at 9×6-feet. The screen room has a bathtub-style floor that will protect it from moisture and ensure it stays dry. The spacious screened porch is also a good place to remove dirty shoes and gear so the sleeping area can stay clean. Those swayed by a larger screened porch will certainly find this tent attractive.

Speaking of swaying, cabin tents generally aren’t that good against strong winds. Wenzel Klondike holds up fairly well against the rain, but a persistent rainfall will result in leaks. The tent is easy to set up by two people, though a single person can do the job as well.

Pros

  • Spacious room with excellent height at 78-inches
  • Screened porch is large and protected against the elements
  • Simple setup with detailed instructions sewn in the tent
  • Good value for money

Cons

  • Doesn’t hold up well against a strong wind
  • No hole for electric cable(s)

2. Coleman WeatherMaster 6-Person Camping Tent with Screen Room

Best Camping Tents With Screened Porch - Coleman WeatherMaster 6-Person Tent with Screen Room

Coleman tents know their way around the block, and this 6 person tent seems pretty much on the mark. The tent is equipped with Coleman’s WeatherTec system, which includes patented welded floors and inverted seams designed for better weatherproofing. A rainfly helps the tent manage rain, and weather-resistant zipper ensures things keep running smooth even in rain.

Though the interiors receive strong floors and good waterproofing, the screen room has been left out. So it is an easy access for rain as well as insects. That’s a pity, because the spacious 9×6-feet screen room looks rather enticing. Cool as it is, the tent definitely could have been better if more attention had been afforded to the screened porch.

Coleman Weather Master 6 Person Tent is easy to set up and should take less than 20 minutes. The spacious interiors have room for two queen size air mattresses. If those are the mattresses of your choice, you may want to consider this one as a 4 person tent.

Pros

  • Thick bathtub floors inside the tent are waterproof and comfortable
  • Excellent weatherproofing
  • Spacious

Cons

  • No flooring on the screened porch
  • Needs better quality stakes

3. Coleman Dome Tent with Screen Room

Best-Camping-Tents-With-Screened-Porch-Coleman-Dome-Tent

This Coleman tent is quite similar to the previous one. However, the Coleman Dome Tent (or better, the Coleman Evanston camping tent) pays better attention to its screening porch and includes a bathtub floor for waterproofing and an overall better experience. What it does lack compared to the previous one, is the lack of a port to manage electrical wires.

Being Dome shaped rather than a cabin, the tent is better equipped to handle rough weather like heavy rain and high winds. It also includes Coleman’s WeatherTec system for overall better weatherproofing. The tent is available in 6-person and 8-person variants, both of which have enough room for two queen size air mattresses. The 8-person tent will have some space left open with the mattresses, but the 6-person feels packed.

Pros

  • Spacious screened porch with weatherproofed flooring
  • WeatherTec system is capable of handling regular weather issues
  • Easy to set up

Cons

  • Removing and packing tent can be a bit difficult
  • Should use better stakes

4. Tahoe Gear Zion 9 Person 3 Season Family Camping Tent And Screen Porch

Best Camping Tents With Screened Porch - Tahoe Gear Zion

Built for use by families, the Tahoe Gear Zion has plenty of space that it puts to use with style. The tent is relatively easy to set up, thanks in part to its shock-corded poles. Taking it down is less intuitive and the instruction booklet is of little help since it includes only diagrams.

The sleeping area is massive and has tons of room. Its large windows and mesh roof don’t just make great views possible, they also give this tent excellent ventilation. The screen porch with this tent is large and imposing, offering plenty of space to sit and lounge. It only has partial flooring, which is a bit of a downer. Although functionally, the partial flooring is good enough to keep gear and dirty shoes away from the sleeping area, thus helping it stay clean.

Pros

  • Spacious and well-made for family use
  • Large screened porch
  • Relatively easy setup

Cons

  • Instruction booklet isn’t very helpful
  • The tent can feel a bit flimsy

5. Nemo Wagontop 8P Camping Tent

Best Camping Tents With Screened Porch - Nemo Wagontop 8P Camping Tent

Nemo Wagontop is the most expensive tent on our list. The high price is largely due to the quality of materials used and some innovative systems implemented for the tents. Apart from the main sleeping area and the screened porch, the Nemo Wagontop has a vestibule that provides extra space for the tent.

Should you need a larger entryway, or just want some more sun, the fabric over the vestibule can be pulled back. The screened porch area is particularly generous and seems almost to compare with the area of the tent itself. It has a waterproof floor, massive screened windows, and a huge door. All of these make the screened porch a great area to spend some time in.

This tent does not include a rainfly and instead relies on its superior quality fabric and coatings to keep water out. The tent poles are made from aluminum that are lightweight and provides good strength.

Pros

  • High-quality construction
  • Waterproof
  • Excellent screened porch with plenty of space

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Instructions provided are terrible at their job

6. Gazelle T4-Plus Pop-Up Portable Camping Hub Tent

Best Camping Tents With Screened Porch - Gazelle 26800 T4-Plus Pop-Up Portable Camping Hub Tent

Gazelle T4-Plus is a simple pop up camping hub tent. It is remarkably easy to set up and the job can be done in less than 2 minutes. Packing up is similarly convenient. The spacious main sleeping area is joined by a large screened porch area. Its rainfly is also easy to attach and remove, adding more convenience.

The screened porch and the main room have a thick floor. Each room’s floor can be individually removed to allow for easier cleaning, and if you prefer, some customizations.

Pros

  • Plenty of room
  • Easy to set up and remove
  • Good waterproofing

Cons

  • While removable floor sounds great as an idea, practically it can leave empty spaces while being reattached – thus becoming troublesome
  • Easily troubled by strong winds

7. Timber Ridge 8-Man Log Cabin Tent

Best Camping Tents With Screened Porch - Timber Ridge 8-Man Log Cabin Tent

This tent has a slightly different look than conventional tents. It wanted to be a log cabin, and now carries the print detailing such a structure. This is a framed tent attached on steel poles, making it very resilient.

It has a massive sleeping area that can house enough people comfortably. Equally impressive is the large screened porch that this tent has to offer. The porch is wide, large, and thanks to the paintwork and shape of the tent, it looks like a “real” porch. As camping tents with screened porch go, this one does the job impressively well.

Pros

  • Big, impressive screened porch
  • Excellent height of tent
  • Very spacious interiors built on a solid frame

Cons

  • Heavy, leading to limited portability
  • Included stakes aren’t very good or dependable

8. Large 10 Person Family Cabin Tent w/Front Porch

Best Camping Tents With Screened Porch - Large 10 Person Family Cabin Tent

This massive tent is quite similar in shape and function to the Timber Ridge tent we just saw. Once you have secured it well, this tent will be able to withstand a good amount of rain and wind. The large windows on all sides ensure good ventilation. There’s also a small door at the back in case you need privacy.

Overall size for this tent is 20x10feet, and you can add a divider to separate rooms for privacy. The screened porch is generously sized and can easily accommodate several people sitting in some luxury. The porch has a detachable floor that makes it easy to clean, gives you more options to play with.

Pros

  • Waterproof
  • Spacious tent with room dividers and extra door
  • Very well ventilated
  • Generous screened porch with removable floor

Cons

  • Heavy, limiting portability
  • Floor under porch can be loose, or even fall short of the required length

9. Ozark Trail 9-Person Instant Cabin Tent

Best Camping Tents With Screened Porch - Ozark Trail 9-Person Instant Cabin Tent

It would be pretty tough to not mention at least one representative from the famous line of Ozark Trail Tents. The cabin tent is very simple to put up and takes its form within seconds. Interior space on the tent is generous and is rated for 7-9 people, though I’d rather go with the lower limit. Ozark Trail Instant cabin tent is waterproof, though it will have trouble in a downpour. On the other hand, it does not perform all that well against strong winds. Make it a point to do away with the stakes sold with the tent, and get better, higher quality stakes.

The screened porch on this tent exists. It is present, but it’s nothing to write home about. Even with the limited area, the screened porch is devoid of a floor. So you do risk water and moisture around the feet, plus there’s a good chance of insects simply waltzing in.

Pros

  • Good value for money
  • Simple and quick to set up

Cons

  • Cannot deal with heavy rain
  • The included stakes are flimsy

10. Tahoe Gear Carson 3-Season 14 Person Large Family Cabin Tent

Best Camping Tents With Screened Porch - Tahoe Gear Carson 3 Season 14 Person Large Family Cabin

Tahoe Gear 14-person tent is massive. Rather than put everyone in one huge room, this tent has three rooms for greater privacy and convenience. Each room’s doors go through the screen porch, which is as wide and impressive as the tent itself.

Center of the tent ceiling stands at 7-feet tall, so it is easier for everyone to walk upright. Ventilation is excellent thanks to six huge windows, and the large screened porch. It does take some time to set this tent up, though it is understandable given the large size and weight.

Tahoe 14 person tent is water resistant, and includes taped fly seams and polyethylene bindings. Be sure to secure this tent well, because its large size does make it something of a target for the wind.

Pros

  • Spacious, huge tent with three rooms
  • Great ventilation
  • Acceptable waterproofing

Cons

  • Complicated and time-consuming to set up
  • Included stakes are ridiculously inept at their job

Blackout tents have made their mark. To put it simply, these tents are made from materials that reduce glare in the tent. The tent no longer acts as a diffuser for sunlight, but can actually block it.

Advantages for insulation and better sleep quality follow with the blackout coating on tent interiors. These sun blocking tents are an innovation poised to go a long way. It is likely that we will see a lot more of these tents in the coming years.

The philosophy (and technology) here is straightforward. You could consider the coating on these tents analogous to blackout curtains at home to keep the outdoor lights away. A coating along the tent interiors blocks unglight. Sleep inside these tents won’t go away with the break of dawn and they won’t get uncomfortably hot after a day in the sun.

5 Best Blackout Tents In 2021

  1. Coleman Dark Room Sundome Tent
  2. Ozark Trail Dark Rest 10-Person Instant Cabin Tent
  3. Quechua Waterproof 2 Second Pop Up Camping Tent
  4. Coleman Carlsbad Darkroom Tent With Screen Room
  5. Coleman Rocky Mountain 5+ Tunnel Tent

1. Coleman Dark Room Sundome Tent

Coleman Dark Room Sundome Tent

Coleman Dark Room Sundome Tent is a variant available in its very popular Sundome line. Like most sundome tents, the dark room tent too boasts excellent weatherproofing and space. An additional advantage is that the dark room tent keeps the interiors protected from sunlight. The dome shape keeps the tent protected from wind, and its Coleman’s patented WeatherTec technology provides excellent waterproofing.

Welded bathtub floors and inverted seams mean rainwater can’t find easy access into this tent. Add to that superior waterproof coating on the tent fabric, and you can imagine yourself being pretty safe from rain. The overall available area for the six person sundome tent is 10×10 feet and its 6 feet center height makes it one of the best tall tents available

As you can very well guess, the dark room properties of this tent plays a big role in making it one of the best. Coleman says the coating prevents 90% of the sunlight from entering the cabin. I feel the number is a bit inflated because the dark-out does not cover the entirety of the tent. While the dark room material really may block 90% of the sunlight, it is present only on the rainfly and windows.

That still leaves a big chunk of the tent body uncovered. So yes, you’ll get a fair amount of sunlight in there. It is still darker than an average tent, but I’d prefer if my dark room was actually dark.

Pros:

  • Good windproofing and waterproofing
  • Dark Room technology performs well where it is present
  • Plenty of space and generous center height

Cons:

  • Dark room technology does not cover the entirety of the tent
  • Can pose some problems when packing away

2. Ozark Trail Dark Rest 10-Person Instant Cabin Tent

Ozark Trail Dark Rest 10-Person Instant Cabin Tent

Ozark Trail Dark Rest tent is one of the most well-made and spacious tents. This is one of the reasons it is our choice as a top 10 person tent. It’s also available in a six-person variant, though it gets less awesome there. As an instant cabin tent, it is claimed that this tent can be set up in just 2 minutes. Well, it may take a couple of minutes longer, but it is still pretty fast to get a 10-person cabin tent going.

The highlight of this tent is, of course, the Dark Rest technology. The interiors are covered in black and serve to block out the sun. This has pretty much the same effect as Coleman’s dark room system. To be clear, Ozark trail’s coating is not as effective as that from Coleman. However, this coating goes throughout the tent and so the results produced are comparable.

An included room divider can bisect the tent into two equal parts, each with its own door for entry and exit. The large windows work well together to get ventilation and airflow going and give great support to the vents placed along the tent.

In plain numbers, this freestanding tent offers 140 square feet of usable area. That’s a pretty good number, though obviously, it won’t be much good at holding 10 people in comfort. If you’ve got rooms drawn and queen-size airbeds placed, this tent is good enough for 5-6 people. When I say that number, I mean people living comfortably with enough space to move around, walk, and sleep conveniently.

Pros:

  • Dark Rest technology works wonderfully
  • Great ventilation and airflow
  • Easy to set up and pack away

Cons:

  • The material seems flimsy
  • Stakes/pegs included with the tent are practically useless

3. Quechua Waterproof 2 Second Pop Up Camping Tent

Quechua Waterproof Pop Up Camping Tent 2 Seconds

Quechua Waterproof 2 Second Pop Up Camping Tent is one of the best pop up camping tents available. It is also a luxurious and wonderfully advanced camping tent that employs innovative technology.

For starters, this tent is waterproof and windproof. The company claims that it can withstand bouts of tropical rain (200mm every hour per meter squared) without springing a leak. It is also rated capable of withstanding winds rated Force 6, going as fast as 50 kph. Now that is some excellent weatherproofing.

Our biggest interest at this point is in the blackout capabilities of this tent. On that point, Quechua claims that its patented exterior fabric can reduce sunlight by as much as 99% even in broad daylight. Practically speaking, it does pretty much live up to that claim. As such, the interiors of the tent remain dark and relatively cooler than their surroundings in summer. It feels like a small convenience, but one that is difficult to give up once it has been experienced.

As a pop up tent, it really does take it about two seconds to pitch this tent. Or rather, for this tent to pitch itself. Packing it up is a little more work, but if you know how to fold a pop up tent, things get better. I’d go so far as to say it becomes easy with some practice.

Quechua Waterproof 2 Second Pop Up Camping Tent weighs about 7.3 lbs for its three person variant. I’ll say it is heavy enough to not be the first choice for hiking, but it’s great for car campers.

Pros:

  • Excellent waterproofing
  • Very good windproofing
  • Blackout tent works marvelously

Cons:

  • Expensive compared to other tents in its category
  • Ventilation leaves much to be desired

4. Coleman Carlsbad Darkroom Tent With Screen Room

Coleman Carlsbad Darkroom Tent With Screen Room

Coleman Carlsbad Darkroom Tent is an impressive and spacious tent with great features. It has the same excellent capabilities as the sundome tent, with the added goodness of a screen room and slightly better dark room. The main part of this tent is the dome structure that opens up into the screen room. This tent is available in two sizes, the four person tent and the six person tent. Both variants have a screen room. I’m partial to the six-person tent, which is being reviewed here.

The main room of the tent offers a floor area of 10×9 feet and a center height of 5feet 8inches. The screen room has an area of 10×5 feet. It is worth noting that the screen room has no floor, although Coleman does provide mats that can be placed there.

Its main room, however, has all the features you would expect from a good tent. It is large, spacious, and yes, wrapped in the dark room fabric. Again, it is the rainfly that has the dark room fabric and does most of the work blocking the sun. Since it is the rainfly blocking the sun, other parts of the tent remain susceptible to sunlight. As a result, even though the main room is darker than most tents, it can’t be about 90% darker as promised by the darkroom technology.

Coleman has done a good job in waterproofing and weatherproofing the tent. The rainfly extends slightly over the windows, so the waterproofing is better. It also allows ventilation to work better, even if it is raining outside.

Pros:

  • Good waterproofing and windproofing
  • The Darkroom technology works great where employed
  • Spacious and comfortable
  • Good ventilation

Cons:

  • No floor for the screen room
  • Marginal protection against rain for the screen room

5. Coleman Rocky Mountain 5+ Tunnel Tent

Coleman Rocky Mountain Tunnel Tent

Coleman has picked up blackout tents in a big way. The company already offers several blackout tents and is very likely to add more to its lineup. Coleman’s lineup is pretty expansive anyways, and they’ve found ways to bring dark rooms to their tents.

Rocky Mountain 5+ Tunnel Tent is a very interesting Coleman darkroom tent. Designed for five people this tent is large enough to be divided into two bedrooms and a living room. The tunnel-type tent offers a total usable area of 120.5 square feet. Now that is spacious! Its living room area is located right with the door of the tent. It is pretty well enclosed, setting this one apart from tents that have a screened porch.

Made from high-quality materials, the tent effectively blocks the sun’s rays and has a rating of SPF 50. What’s even better is its waterproofing! This tent is rated for 4500mm of water and you can expect it not to break a sweat even in heavy rain.

Coleman claims that the bedrooms of this tent are designed in a way that eliminates 99% of the sunlight from entering the bedroom. Both bedrooms have been lavishly bestowed with the blackout coating to ensure sunlight does not enter these rooms unless you want it to.

A double floor layer on these bedrooms also adds to the comfort. The living room area is large and open. Two PVC windows in there allow light to enter the tent, and do make for a rather pleasant situation.

https://youtu.be/5kTXyZVOUts

Pros:

  • Very comfortable blackout tent
  • Excellent waterproofing
  • Spacious

Cons:

  • Can struggle with airflow
  • The bedrooms can feel too small

Are Blackout Tents Worth It?

Short answer, yes! Blackout tents offer a good solution to insulation as well as increased comfort in a tent. With the tent absorbing the sunrays, the interiors remain relatively cooler in the summers. A darker sleeping room also means you get to sleep better. It is very likely that these tents will continue to improve and gain more favor with customers.

Camping in luxury, or glamping (glamorous camping) as it is often called, is very popular. Canvas bell tents are excellent companions for this activity. Carrying a heavy tent and some items of creature comfort isn’t difficult with car camping, especially when you have glamping in mind.

To be clear, the best bell tents are often expensive and heavy. Additionally, some expertise is necessary to put up these heavy tents. Often, they are permanent features at camping/glamping grounds or festivals. Visitors may rent these tents as necessary.

However, if you’re willing to put in the work, there’s no reason you can’t have your own tent. Bell tents give you the luxury of spaciousness and comfort while spending time in the great outdoors. Finding the right bell tent isn’t just about space, comfort and luxury play a big role as well.

Best Bell Tents For 2021

Top 9 Canvas Bell Tents (Reviews)

1. DANCHEL Cotton Bell Tent with Two Stove Jacket (Top and Wall)

Best Bell Tent - DANCHEL Cotton Bell Tent with Two Stove Jackets

This is an excellent tent with a great price point. DANCHEL Bell Tent is a four seasons canvas tent, with excellent arrangement for all seasons. The tent is available in the most common sizes (3,4,5, and 6m), each with two stove jackets.

You could very well put both stove jackets to use, but they recommend the top jacket be used for the stove. The second jacket (wall) can be used for other applications like an air-conditioning tube, power cord, or a solar panel line.

The tent is made from 300GSM cotton canvas. Its floor is made from PVC and can be attached/removed by means of a zipper. The tent uses a steel pole, steel stakes, and aluminum sliders for its ropes.

2. PlayDo 4-Season Waterproof Cotton Canvas Bell Tent Wall Yurt Tent

Best Bell Tent - PlayDo 4-Season Waterproof Cotton Canvas Bell Tent Wall Yurt Tent

PlayDo 4-Season Waterproof Cotton Canvas Bell Tent Wall Yurt Tent comes with stove jacks placed in the roof and wall. In that sense, it is quite similar to the Danchel tent we saw above. Other similarities include a thick PVC floor that is both rugged and waterproof.

This 4 season bell tent includes small windows at the back, though the entrance is massive and looks cool. Roof vents work with these windows to manage airflow and keep the tent well ventilated. Though if you want a different look and more air, you can roll up the tent walls and convert it into a large canopy.

3. Dream House Outdoor Waterproof Cotton Canvas Bell Tent

Best Bell Tent - Dream House Luxury Four Season Family Camping and Winter Glamping Cotton Canvas Yurt Bell Tent

Another cool bell tent, the Dream House Luxury Canvas Yurt Bell Tent has a stove jacket in its wall, and its large doors and windows covered by mesh. For additional help with waterproofing, the canvas is covered in a PU coating, and the seams are taped for better water resistance.

You can enjoy this cool bell tent as a four season tent. Having a stove will help with winter, while the excellent ventilation is excellent for summer. Like most other bell tents on our list, the walls of this tent can be folded up as well. That gives you a nice and airy (almost) canopy-style tent to enjoy.

4. Stout Bell Tent – Ultimate Series

Best Bell Tent - Stout Bell Tent Cotton Canvas Tent

Stout Bell Tent – Ultimate Series performs as well as you would expect from a good quality canvas tent. The waterproofing is great, and the breathability of the fabric really does make a difference. This tent has one stove jacket on the roof, and you can put it to good use when necessary.

A see-no-ums mesh screen on the doors and windows keeps the tent well ventilated, but without the risk of insects getting in. Stout Bell Cotton Canvas tent is available in “double-wall” and single wall variants.

In the double wall variant, the mesh lines the walls of the tent as well. So when you feel like it, you can simply roll up the walls, while having the mesh protect the interiors from insects and similar problems.

5. Psyclone Tents Luxury All Weather 8-10 Person Cotton Canvas Yurt Tent House

Best Bell Tent - Psyclone Tents Luxury All Weather 8-10 Person Cotton Canvas Yurt Tent House

This Psyclone tent adds a touch of polyester to the canvas. The tent fabric is made from 340 gsm polyester cotton canvas blend with waterproof treatment. That makes it lighter, easier to dry, and slightly improves the waterproofing. Floor of the tent is a solid 520 gsm PVC groundsheet, which is impressively robust. Quality and pricing of this tent are comparable to similar models of a Soul bell tent.

There are four windows on this tent, accompanying the large door, they ensure excellent ventilation. All four windows and four roof vents are covered in no-see-um mesh to ensure airflow without worrying about bugs. It is slightly more expensive than some other tents on this list. However, the quality of materials used is an excellent explanation of the price.

6. TETON Sports Sierra Canvas Tent

Best Bell Tent - TETON Sports Sierra 12 Canvas Tent

TETON Sports Sierra 12 Canvas Tent is a popular canvas tent. Its entry-level pricing with great quality certainly does work in this tent’s favor. The tent uses a two pole assembly for easier setup, and oversized door makes quite an impression. Mesh screen doors are independent of the main doors, so you can let the big doors go free without worrying about bugs.

Walls of the TETON Sports Sierra can be folded away to give it a canopy-style look. Bell style tents do look great with the walls folded away. And if you’re out glamping, the space does look and feel pretty good, especially for a gathering or party.

7. Outsunny 16’ Waterproof Four Season Canvas Yurt Bell Tent

Best Bell Tent - Outsunny 16’ Waterproof Four Season Canvas Yurt Bell Tent

Outsunny Four SeasonCanvas Yurt Bell Tent is my choice for the best polyester bell tent. As you can guess, the biggest advantage of using polyester over canvas is its price. Although clearly there are other advantages as well; the tent is lighter, easier to dry, and less susceptible to molding.

Of course, it does suffer a bit in the realm of longevity, and won’t last nearly as long as a canvas tent. Though that isn’t due to any lack of quality of construction. The tent is made from robust 210D polyester fabric and includes and impressive waterproofing coating.

Spacious interiors of the tent are laid over in diameter of 16-feet, making it a useful 10 person tent. Do remember that though rated for 10 people, a tent of this size will house about six people in comfort.

8. White Duck Outdoors Avalon Canvas Bell Tent

Best Bell Tent - White Duck Outdoors Premium Canvas Bell Tent

White Duck Outdoors Premium Avalon Canvas Bell Tent is one of the best luxury tents for camping. And for glamping! The tent is made from 100% army duck canvas, and treated with silicone to enhance waterproofing without compromising breathability. A high-density PVC groundsheet provides additional waterproofing and comfort.

Its massive entry door can be covered by a no-see-um mesh. The same is also true for windows on this tent. Four of the seven windows on this boutique tent have a three-layer feature. The layers are a no-see-um mesh, clear PVC screen, and a canvas flap. The remaining three windows do not have a mesh and are designed to use as attachments for an (optional) sleeping pod.

9. UNISTRENGH 4 Season Large Waterproof Cotton Canvas Bell Tent

Best Bell Tent - UNISTRENGH 4 Season Large Waterproof Cotton Canvas Bell Tent

Available in several size options, the Unistrengh canvas bell tent is another fine canvas bell tent. This one is available in several sizes, going all the way from 3m to 7m. Each variant includes a stove jacket in its roof. Again, I’d suggest skipping the 3m version and starting with the 4m bell tent as the minimum for your choice. The bell tent with stove is intended to work as a four season camping tent, allowing inhabitants to stay warm in the winter.

Canvas fabric used for this tent is 300gsm, the flooring is 540gsm PVC, and the porch and windows are covered in no-see-um mesh. That would be necessary, considering the massive door that this tent has. It’s a well-formed tent with excellent options that certainly do attract attention.

Picking A Canvas Bell Tent

Bell Tent Glamping — Why Is Canvas The Material Of Choice?

Canvas as a tent fabric is superior to the conventionally used nylon and polyester. Canvas is breathable, and that reduces conventional tent problems like condensation. It is also better at waterproofing, and in general, is more rugged and has a larger lifespan than synthetic fabrics.

The material fares better with the weather as well. You’ll find canvas tents are better at keeping heat out in summer and are warmer than their surroundings in winter. So if glamping and luxurious accommodation are important, a good canvas tent is a clear winner.

You could get a nylon or polyester bell tent, but it’s rarely worth the trouble. A blend for your fabric is a better option. Canvas is made from cotton, but not all canvas tents use 100% cotton. Many tents use poly-cotton, a blend of polyester and cotton. A well-made polycotton canvas tent has better waterproofing, is lighter, and is quicker to dry.

What Are The Advantages Of A Bell Tent?

A big draw for bell tents is the available center height. You can stand up straight and walk about in a bell tent, without having the stoop. They’re also relatively easier to set up and pack down, so campers don’t spend a lot of time in getting their accommodation ready.

It helps that bell tents are aesthetically pleasing, and looks are a big draw. These tents have been popular for a long time, and their familiar shape encourages people to consider these tents.

Of course, these tents aren’t just relying on looks and familiarity. The sleek shape of bell tents is very useful for camping. The setup is robust and holds well against wind and rain. When used as a four-season tent, the bell shape avoids pileup of snow on the roof, keeping the tent comfortable.

Choosing The Right Size — Popularity Of The 5m Bell Tent

Bell tents are circular in shape, and their size is generally measured as diameter. They are commonly available in sizes of 3, 4, 5, and 6 meters. Personally, I’d say 4m and 5m bell tents are in something of a “Goldilocks Zone”. In terms of size, 3m is too small, and 6m is too large.

A 4m tent can house 3-4 adults in comfort, while a 5m bell tent is good enough for 5-6 people. Of course, if you’re more inclined towards glamping, a 5m tent for two people will give you plenty of space. The available space makes things comfortable and luxurious, which is why these are often the tents of choice for luxury camping.

Enjoying Your Camping Trip With The Best Bell Tent

With glamping becoming ever popular in the USA, several options have popped up for a more luxurious camping style. Amongst the most popular tents in this category are canvas bell tents. A camping trip with the best bell tent for company adds a dimension of luxury.

Buying a decent tent doesn’t necessarily have to involve forking over boatloads of money. There are plenty of tents available that make this essential piece of outdoor gear affordable. Finding the best tent under 200 takes a bit of effort, but the results are worth it.

This is a decent price range to find tents in various sizes. Not just 1-2 person tents, you could get great family tents in this range too! Here’s something to remember. Our goal isn’t to buy cheap, flimsy tents. What we want is good value for money and quality tents that can provide it.

1. Eureka! Solitaire AL One-Person Backpacking Tent — Best Budget Backpacking Tent

Eureka Solitaire AL One-Person Backpacking Tent

Coming in at just under $100, Eureka Solitaire AL offers all necessary features for a great price. The one-person tent has a simple two-pole design that makes it easy to setup. The tent can be ready to go in just a few seconds.

Eureka Solitaire comes with an integrated rainfly that can be rolled back to expose the mesh body of the tent. This is great for ventilation and stargazing and adds convenience to this three-seasons tent. To keep things waterproof, the rainfly and tent floor are made from 68D 185T polyester taffeta that has a waterproof rating of 1500mm.

As the best budget backpacking tent, the Solitaire AL remains weight conscious and weighs just 2 pounds and 10 ounces. When pitched, the tent has an internal area of 21.5 square feet. It has a width of 2’8” and a length of 8’.

The available area is comfortable enough for one person, but there won’t be enough room for anything besides the necessities. If you’re tall, this tent probably won’t have enough room for your backpack to fit inside.

Pros:

  • Excellent budget backpacking tent
  • Acceptable waterproofing
  • Lightweight and folds into a small package

Cons:

  • May not be spacious enough for tall people
  • Zippers close at a weird angle and leave some space

2. Kelty Salida Camping and Backpacking Tent — Best Backpacking Tent Under $200

Kelty Salida Camping and Backpacking Tent

Kelty Salida is a more spacious and sturdy tent for your backpacking and car camping voyages. The tent top is made from 40D no-see-um mesh to ensure good ventilation, while the body is made from 68D Polyester. The tent floor is made from 68D nylon and is rated waterproof for 1800mm.

Dimensions of the Kelty Salida Camping and Backpacking Tent include a 38-inch center height, length of 86-inch, and a floor area of 20 square feet. A vestibule area of 6.5 square feet is available for extra storage and is fairly spacious. The packaged weight of the tent is 3lb 14oz and the minimum weight is 3lb 6oz. It packs down to 11×14 inches for easy tent packaging in your backpack.

The lightweight tent is color-coded for easy setup and takedown. An included rainfly goes all around the tent and ensures it stays waterproof. The dome-style shape of the tent also keeps it grounded in wind. Though this is a freestanding tent, it would be sensible to use ground nails to properly secure it.

Pros:

  • Lightweight and easy to manage
  • Good waterproofing
  • Plenty of space as a one-person tent
  • Good ventilation

Cons:

  • Not sufficiently lightweight
  • Does not include gear loft

3. Mountainsmith Morrison 2 Person Tent — Best 2 Person Tent Under 200

Mountainsmith Morrison 2 Person Tent

Mountainsmith Morrison 2 Person Tent is big, spacious, and colorful. The tent has two large doors along its length on both sides and two vestibules for extra storage. As a 2-person tent, this makes it very easy for both people to store their gear and get in/out of the tent easily without disturbing the other person.

As the dimensions go, the tent has a center height of 43-inch, length and 92-inch, and width at 56-inch. I’d say the width is just sufficient to get two people into the tent, though not enough to keep them comfortable. And this is one of the more spacious tents! To clarify, this isn’t something wrong with this tent, but it’s more of a generic dimension measurement used in the industry. I’d consider this more in line with a comfortable 1-person tent. But yeah, it’s pretty good for two people if you’re backpacking. If you’re car camping, go a size higher for two people – and that holds true not just for this one, but for most tents available in the market.

Mountainsmith Morrison does pretty good on waterproofing. The bathtub floor ensures water stays out. The floor is made from 190T polyester and has a polyurethane coating rated for 5000mm of water head. The rainfly is similarly capable; made from 185T polyester and with a polyurethane coating rated for 2000mm.

Pros:

  • Excellent ventilation
  • Holds well against wind and rain
  • Bathtub floor and taped seams for better waterproofing
  • Detachable ceiling loft and mesh storage pockets

Cons:

  • The aluminum poles could be sturdier

4. ALPS Mountaineering Meramac 2-Person Tent

ALPS Mountaineering Meramac 2-Person Tent

ALPS Mountaineering Meramac 2-Person Tent is cozy and comfortable. It has two large D-shaped doors for easy entry and exit on each side. The large mesh windows and mesh roof panels work perfectly well for ventilation.

When draped in the polyester rainfly, the tent maintains sufficient ventilation. The rainfly forms an awning over each door in an attempt to keep the doors safe from rainfall. Made from 75D 185T polyester, the rainfly has a waterproof coating rated at 1500mm. The floor is made from 75D polyester taffeta and rated at 1500mm.

Meramac is spacious with a width of 60-inch, a length at 78-inch, and center height at 48-inch. You’ll have plenty of room for your gear, though there are no vestibules for additional storage area. There are some flaws with this tent, but it is incredible value for money and the best budget tent available.

Pros:

  • Spacious and well-ventilated
  • Sufficient protection against rain (not for heavy rain)
  • Two large doors for convenient entry and exit
  • Excellent value for money

Cons:

  • Tent floor is thin, and practically the same as rainfly

5. ALPS Mountaineering Zephyr 2-Person Tent — Best Lightweight Tent Under 200

ALPS Mountaineering Zephyr 2-Person Tent

ALPS Mountaineering Zephyr is a hardy and more advanced sibling to the Meramac that we just saw. This 2-person tent is very good for camping and backpacking, especially in the sub-200 price range. Its total weight is 5lbs 8oz, though it can be stripped down to just 4lbs 11oz.

Though it makes savings in weight the tent remains spacious. It has a floor area of 7’4”x4’10” and a center height of 38-inch. The walls are made from mesh for excellent ventilation and include two large D-style doors on either side.

Putting on the included polyester rainfly adds two vestibules for additional storage space. The rainfly is made from 75D 185T polyester and coated to withstand a 1500mm hydrostatic head. The tent floor is similarly made from 75D 185T polyester, but it has a more robust coating and is rated at 3000mm.

Pros:

  • Spacious
  • Well-ventilated
  • Excellent value for money
  • Simple to set up and pack away

Cons:

  • The floor could be more robust

6. Marmot Crane Creek Backpacking and Camping Tent — Best 3 Person Tent Under 200

Marmot Crane Creek Backpacking and Camping Tent

Durability and good quality make the Marmot Crane Creek the best 3 person tent under $200. To be clear, this tent is technically listed above $200, but its sales price is usually below the magic number. It offers a generous center height of 46-inch though it is not as generous with the width, which is 63-inches. The available length is 88-inch.

I find the width to be rather constricting in a 3-person use. It is fairly good for two people, but a short straw for three, with barely enough room. The overall available area is 42 square feet. The tent weighs 6lbs 5oz, though you can strip it down to 5lbs 13oz.

Marmot Crane Creek tent has a seam-taped floor and rainfly for better waterproofing. Its large D-shaped doors offer easy entry and exit. Two overhead vestibules are made available for extra storage space.

Pros:

  • Good ventilation
  • Acceptable waterproofing – it will stand mild to medium rain
  • Simple to set up

Cons:

  • Can feel too small for three people

7. Teton Sports Mountain Ultra 4-Person Tent — Best 4 Person Tent Under 200

Teton Sports Mountain Ultra 4-Person Tent

Teton Sports Mountain Ultra 4-Person Tent is a versatile tent with great value for money. The tent is available in 1,2,3, and 4-person variants, each of which is well-suited for its purpose. Its body is entirely mesh, though the floor is a thick, bathtub style with sufficient waterproofing. The included rainfly puts up quite a performance as a 75D 3mm ripstop material rated for 3000mm.

Dimensions of this tent are 98”x83” length and width. The numbers are fairly standard for 4-person tents, though not exactly comfortable for four people. It has a center height of 59-inch, which is fairly spacious and convenient.

It is best to buy a footprint with this tent. A few earlier versions of the Mountain Ultra included footprints. The current version doesn’t include a footprint, so you’ll have to manage that on your own.

Pros:

  • Excellent ventilation
  • Sufficient waterproofing
  • Good center height

Cons:

  • Construction can feel cheap at some points

8. Coleman Sundome 6-Person Tent — Best 6 Person Tent Under 200

Coleman Sundome 6 Person Tent

Coleman Sundome tents are first in line as the best budget tents available. Incredible value and great features have made the Sundome a very highly regarded tent. It is available in several sizes, and in this particular variant is the best 6 person tent under 200.

It does pretty well on weatherproofing as well, and is generally seen as one of the best tents for rain and wind. A good part of those laurels comes from Coleman’s WeatherTec system where taped and inverted seams, welded bathtub floors, and weather-resistant fabric offer good value.

As a 6-person tent, Coleman Sundome offers a floor area of 10×10 feet and has a center height of 6-feet. That’s plenty spacious and convenient.

Pros:

  • Excellent value for money
  • Spacious
  • Good weatherproofing – can stand against wind and rain

Cons:

  • Overall construction feels somewhat flimsy
  • Included tent poles and stakes are below average

9. CORE 6 Person Instant Cabin Tent

Core 6 Person Instant Cabin Tent

CORE 6 Person Instant Cabin Tent is an excellent cabin-style family tent with plenty of room. With a center-height of 72-inch and a floor area of 11×9 feet, there’s enough headspace for most people to walk around upright. Its cabin-style construction makes the tent feel more spacious, thanks to the extra headroom.

To offer waterproofing, Core has used its H2O block technology in the construction of this tent. This includes the use of water-repellant fabric in construction, sealed seams, and taped rainfly, and rain-resistant doors with window seals. Overall, you can expect the tent to hold up in medium rain, and while it will take a beating in heavy rain, it might not be terrible.

Pros:

  • Acceptable waterproofing
  • Plenty of space, thanks to cabin-style design
  • Gear loft and large wall organizer add value and use

Cons:

  • The tent floor could be thicker/better

10. Wenzel 8 Person Klondike Tent

Wenzel 8 Person Klondike Tent

Wenzel 8 Person Klondike Tent marries excellent value to a good quality tent. This tent is spacious, comfortable, and one of the best camping tents with screened porch you can buy. There are two rooms in this tent – the screened porch and the main room. It has only one exit, which is located in the screen room.

Its large windows, mesh roof, and strategically placed vents certainly help with ventilation. Thanks to the vents, putting on the rainfly does not disrupt ventilation. Wenzel calls waterproofing on its tents Weather Armor technology. The fancy name comes with standard tent waterproofing approaches like coating water-resistant polyurethane on the tent body. It offers average waterproofing, and the windows remain susceptible to rainwater.

The tent is spacious with an area of 11×16-feet, and 6.5-feet of headroom. Most people will be able to walk around in this tent without having to stoop or hunch. The large tent is easy to set up and can be conveniently handled by 2 people, although where necessary, one person can do the job as well.

Pros:

  • Excellent value
  • Very spacious tent
  • Good ventilation

Cons:

  • Doesn’t hold up well against wind
  • No electric port

True to their name, tunnel tents feature a semi-cylindrical body that’s curved at the top and elongated. They aren’t as common in the USA, though they are fairly popular in Europe. However, there are plenty of situations where these tents can come handy in America as well.

Taking along a tunnel tent for camping is best suited for a relatively cool and wet climate. If you find yourself in such campgrounds often, it might be worth your while to invest in tunnel tents.

Top Tunnel Tents Reviewed And Discussed

1. Coleman Tunnel Tent Rocky Mountain

Coleman-Rocky-Mountain-Tunnel-Tent

So here’s the Coleman Tunnel Tent Rocky Mountain. Interestingly, though this tent bears the name of the famous American mountain range, Coleman doesn’t sell it directly in the USA. Like most other tunnel tents, you’ll have to import this one from Europe.

It’s a pity that this tent isn’t widely available in the US, considering it’s a remarkably good tent with tons of excellent features. This is one of the most remarkably 5 person tents available. It’s feature-rich, sturdy, and comfortable.

You enter the tent through a large living room. This room has a huge door for the tent and large PVC-covered windows. This setting makes it well-receptive to daylight and air, which does credit to the living space. At the other end of the living room is the main room, or sleeping room.

The tent roof tapers over the sleeping room, however, the center height at the door remains comfortable. If you feel like it, you can divide the sleeping room into two for added privacy. To aid in better sleep, the sleeping room is covered in black, so the Coleman Rocky Tunnel tent behaves as a blackout tent.

Pros

  • Sleeping area is a blackout tent
  • Large, comfortable living room
  • Sleeping area can be divided into two rooms, effectively making this a three=person tent
  • Excellent waterproofing (rated 4500mm HH)
  • SPF 50 protection

Cons

  • Has some trouble with airflow and ventilation
  • The bedroom can feel too small

2. Jack Wolfskin Travel Lodge FR

Jack Wolfskin Travel Lodge FR

Our top choice for this category is the rather impressive Jack Wolfskin Travel Lodge FR. This is an expensive tent, but when in use, it becomes apparent that this is well worth the price. Travel Lodge FR is a 5-7 person modular tent that can be used in several ways.

Specifically, this is a four-room tent with three doors. This allows some privacy and free movement to the rooms in the tent. Since this is a modular build, you can choose to remove a room or partly detach another one to serve your specific purposes.

This spacious four-season tent can be easily adjusted to answer to your whims and wishes. The groundsheet is attached to the rainfly, but remains removable. Tent floor for the interiors is sewn in and cannot be removed.

Jack Wolfskin Travel Lodge FR offers excellent protection from the wind and the rain. It remains largely unperturbed through rough weather and its rating of 4500mm HH ensures there’s no risk of water finding its way inside the tent.

The tent is available in European and US models. They’re pretty much the same, except the US version has a fire-retardant coating.

Pros

  • Modular four room tent with removable and modifiable rooms
  • Excellent weatherproofing
  • Spacious and livable
  • Has three large doors and windows
  • Center height 74.8-inches, and area of 183 sq. ft.
  • Four season tent

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Can be slightly troublesome to set up, especially for new users

3. Vango Waterproof Odyssey 800 Tunnel Tent

Vango Waterproof Odyssey 800 Outdoor Tunnel Tent

Vango is a well-trusted name, and the quality and features of this tend to do it justice. The well-made tunnel tent has a classic look and will gladly take on rain and wind without troubling inhabitants of the tent.

Its living room is located in the center of the tent. A large door and clear plastic windows let the air in, and keeps the tent bright and fun. The large Odyssey 800 is a very large comfortable tent and can function as an 8-person tent.

However, if you do that, this spacious tent will end up feeling cramped and useless. This is best used for about four people. Other notable features of the tent include a sewn-in groundsheet and Vango Tension Band System (TBS II).

Pros

  • Spacious 3-season tent
  • Excellent waterproofing (4000mm HH)
  • Sewn-in groundsheet
  • Vango Tension Band System provides greater protection against the wind

Cons

  • Slightly heavy
  • One of the doors doesn’t have mesh

4. NTK Arizona GT 9 to 10 Person Tent

NTK Arizona GT 9-10 Person Tent

NTK Arizona GT 9 to 10 Person Tent is a big sports camping tent. It slightly deviates from the tunnel shape, but its general characteristics remain quite similar. The spacious tent can be divided into two rooms, each with its own door. A total of three windows dot the tent, so there’s plenty of ventilation to go around.

The inner tent has quite an open construction with windows being prominently featured. However, once you put the 190T rainfly on, the tent takes a more conventional and somewhat robust shape. Put the window and door flaps on the rainfly in order, and the tent is fairly well-prepared to deal with inclement weather.

The tent floor has a silver coat that helps maintain the temperature inside the tent. That said, this remains a 3-season tent. All windows and doors are covered in mesh to keep insects out. Interestingly, the rainfly flaps on the windows and doors are managed from outside the tent, which makes it quite troublesome and questionable where privacy is concerned.

Pros

  • Large 9-10 person tent
  • Good waterproofing (2500mm HH)
  • Comfortable center height of 6’2”

Cons

  • Window flaps on the rainfly are managed from outside the tent

5. Hasika Family Camping Tunnel Tent Top Canopy Cover

Hasika Family Camping Tunnel Tent Top Canopy Cover

Hasika Family Camping Tunnel Tent Top Canopy Cover does its job pretty well. Keep in mind though, this isn’t supposed to work as a full-fledged tent. Instead, it’s a tunnel-style canopy that you could take around for use as a shelter. Or, use the canopy with a vehicle to form a nice covered area.

One end of the canopy is closed, while the other remains open. The sides have three large door-style openings, which can be set aside when you want the canopy to be airy. Its polyester fabric is pretty good and holds up very well.

At about 18 lbs, this is a lightweight tent, but it isn’t really meant to be set up by one person. You could do it, but that’s way too much work.

Pros

  • Lightweight tunnel tent canopy
  • Well-priced

Cons

  • Not fit for single-person set up
  • Questionable longevity

6. Ozark Trail 8-Person Dome Tunnel Tent

Ozark Trail 8-Person Dome Tunnel Tent

Ozark Trail 8-Person Dome Tunnel Tent is perhaps more dome than tunnel, but hey, it fits in quite well! It’s covered in a full-coverage rainfly that provides excellent protection against the wind and rain. Ozark Trail Tunnel Tent has a large door that leads to a smaller, dome-style living room.

In effect, this is best suited as a four-person, 2-room tent. Though, of course, you could cram eight people in there. You can also use the roll back rainfly to uncover the living room, thus converting this into a tent with screen room

Overall dimensions of the tent are 13×9 feet. Add to that the center height of 78-inches, and you have a very comfortable tent where you can walk around without stooping. Well, since this is a tunnel-style tent, the sides taper pretty quickly, but there is room to move around even for tall people.

Pros

  • Attractive pricing
  • Roll-back rainfly creates a screen room
  • Adequate protection against wind and rain

Cons

  • Tent poles are flimsy, thus the longevity is questionable

7. Vango Ringstead Air Adult Mixed Inflatable Tent – 400

Vango Ringstead Air Adult Mixed Inflatable Tent - 400

A small tunnel style tent, this deserves special attention because of its lightweight and easy setup. This is an airframe tent, which relies on air to inflate the poles and keep them in position. A double-action pump is included with the tent to ensure it goes up quickly and stays upright.

Vango Ringstead Air Adult Mixed Inflatable Tent – 400 is a four-person tent. A single exit door is located at the center of the tent. Once you enter, there’s a bedroom on either side, each capable of holding two people.

The tent has a fully sewn-in groundsheet and a top-quality fabric that’s rated for 3,000 mm HH. Overall, the weatherproofing is excellent, and you won’t have to worry much about this tent in rain or strong winds. Besides, due to its airframe construction, it is relatively easy to move around. But of course, there’s the added weight of an air pump to bring along.

Pros

  • Airframe tent
  • Spacious tent – 3 rooms, including 2 bedrooms
  • Fully sewn-in groundsheet
  • High-quality fabric rated for 3000mm HH

Cons

  • Quite expensive compared to conventional four-person tents

8. Coleman Waterproof Tasman Unisex Outdoor Tunnel Tent

Vango Ringstead Air Adult Mixed Inflatable Tent - 400

Another offering from Coleman, the Tasman is a small tent suited for three people. It takes the same construction cues as other tunnel models, where a living room leads to the bedroom. The living room here is pretty much open space. All of its three sides that are exposed to the outside show a door each.

Mosquito nets are included for the sleeping area, so it remains comfortable even if you leave the outer room open. A thick and robust groundsheet covers the base of the tent. Meanwhile, the tent fabric is impressive too, and capable of handling tough winds and rain.

Pros

  • Spacious, well-made tent
  • Mosquito cover for the bedroom
  • Rainproof and windproof

Cons

  • Overall fabric quality could have been better

Toddler Tents: Playful Tunnel Tents For Kids

1. UTEX 3 in 1 Pop Up Play Tent with Tunnel

UTEX 3 in 1 Pop Up Play Tent with Tunnel

Here’s a toddler tent and ball pit that kids will absolutely love. There are two rooms in this tent and both have colorful and cheery prints on them. One of these is designed like a dice, while the other is something of a pyramid. A tunnel connects both these “structures”.

The pyramid and dice are built to provide hours of fun, as children play around and go from one room to another. The tunnel forms a comfortable place for crawling, though it remains open so you can observe the children while playing and they have a view of their surroundings.

Both these rooms can be filled with some playful balls to make miniature ball pits that children will love. They’ve used a sturdy 190T polyester taffeta to build this tent. It’s a good choice, since the tent is going to take some serious wear&tear with kids playing.

Tent Highlights

  • Made from high-quality 198T polyester
  • Includes two rooms and a fun tunnel to move around

2. Kiddey Caterpillar Play Tunnel and Tent Combo

Kiddey Caterpillar Play Tunnel and Tent Combo

As fun tents go, this caterpillar has its bases covered. The entrance to the tent is through the cheerful mouth of the caterpillar. On closer inspection, the mouth of the caterpillar looks like a small and painted pop up changing tent. A happy coincidence, I’m sure.

The entrance is slightly elevated, so the mouth of the caterpillar can hold a few layers of balls for games. As you move towards the side, the body of the caterpillar shows up. It’s a fun tunnel that children can use to exit the caterpillar.

Tent Highlights

  • Easy to set up pop up design
  • Fun to play

A Buying Guide — Things To Know When Buying A Tunnel Tent

They’re Excellent Against Wind And Rain

Tunnel tents have excellent performance against wind and rain. Their shape puts them at low-resistance against the wind, thus giving these tents a leg. Due to this, they can stay standing even in strong winds.

The same shape also helps with waterproofing. Since the rainfly can be continuous, there are no points for water to pool. Besides, the tunnel shape actively pushes the water and forces it towards the ground.

Tunnel tents for camping are essentially enclosed structures. This puts them at an advantage against the weather and gives these tents higher resistance against the wind and the rain.

The Cost To Pay Is Ventilation

Being enclosed structures, tunnel tents don’t really have features like a mesh roof or multiple windows to handle airflow. This makes these tents suitable for a specific weather condition.

Generally, tunnel tents are best suited in relatively cooler and wetter weather.

This is one reason they’re so popular in Europe, but have limited uses in the USA. There are some campgrounds suitable for tunnel tents in the USA as well. If you often find yourself in a campground that matches these

If you take it to unsuitable climates, prepare to deal with a number of weird and uncomfortable situations. For one, the lack of ventilation will quickly make this tent feel warm and uncomfortable. There’s also a greater risk of condensation and general discomfort.

Other Factors And Features Of Note

Most tunnel tents are built with multiple rooms. You’ll often find two rooms, though three and four room configurations aren’t all that rare either. It’s nice to have several room options, but be careful with what you pick. It’s also a good idea to examine the sleeping room to see if it is comfortable and spacious enough.

Though it isn’t a default feature, many tents have blackout features for the sleeping room(s). This may include a fabric layer or darker coloring, but in any case, you get a better chance of dozing off undisturbed. Now that’s something to look forward to!

Tunnel tents are rarely freestanding. You’ll have to make it a point to secure the tent using guylines, so it stays strong in the face of wind. That’s rarely a problem, but do make sure that you properly secure the tent.

Finally, there’s something to note about the price too! As we know, these tents are more popular in Europe and thus make a good chunk of options there. On websites like Amazon, you might be directed to a seller from Europe. In such cases, look closely and be careful beyond the listed price. Take a closer look at the shipping and any possible import duties.

Making A Tunnel Tent Choice

Getting tunnel tents for camping is a good idea in relatively cooler environments. These tents are enclosed structures that offer excellent protection against wind and rain. They’re also quite comfortable and spacious – often with multiple rooms. Take a careful look and pick the one that suits you best.

My top choice for this category is the Jack Wolfskin Travel Lodge FR. It is somewhat expensive, but it remains dependable. Plus, its modular features add great value and flexibility.

Winter camping requires special tents. These are generally four season tents that can be used throughout the year. Conventional tents are usually 2-3 season tents. They’ll hold up good enough in other seasons, but don’t do well in winters.

A key component for winter tents isn’t just better temperature management, but also the ability to allow heating equipment. You can expect your winter tent with stove jack to keep you warm and comfortable. These tents allow the placement of a stove and related exhaust. That way, the insides of the tent can be toasty, even with a fair amount of snow outside.

Reviewing The 6 Best 4 Season Tent With Stove

1. Danchel Cotton Bell Tent With Two Stove Jacket — Best Value

DANCHEL Cotton Bell Tent with Two Stove Jackets

Danchel Cotton Bell Tent offers excellent value and quality, which makes it one of the best canvas tents available. The tent is available in various size options, which are:

  • 10 feet
  • 13.3 feet
  • 16.6 feet
  • 20 feet

These represent the diameter of this yurt-style tent. The 3 meters/ 10 feet tent is a four-person tent, and so on. It is made from khaki canvas and is fairly resilient. Given its price point, the tent can’t offer the best fabric money can buy. However, it comes close to matching value and price.

Setup is fairly easy thanks to its shape. Most of the setup revolves around setting up the central pole, which is convenient enough. SBS brand zippers hold together the floor and the sidewall. They can be easily removed should you choose to fold the sidewall, thus offering an added convenience.

Ventilation And Waterproofing

The large door offers easy entry and exit from the tent, and should you need it, ventilation. Aiding the door in ventilation are low slung windows and vents in the roof and floor. The door and windows are backed by a no-see-um mesh, so you don’t have to worry about insects.

The mesh can go around the sidewall as well, reducing worry about folding the sidewall in warmer weather. Danchel’s tent is waterproof, given canvas itself is apt at keeping water away. However, the windows must be closed in rain to stop water from entering the tent.

Stove Jacks

There are two stove jacks in this tent. One on the roof, the second on the wall. Both of these have a diameter of 3.9-inch and can be covered when not in use. However, not both are equally suited to be used with a stove.

The wall jack is best used for things like an AC conduit if you’re camping in the summer. For winter camping where you need a stove, the roof jack is what you need. You will need a stove jack protector to use with this tent. The stock material simply won’t hold up to the heat.

Tent Highlights

  • Excellent four-season tent
  • Great value
  • Has two stove jacks, one in the roof, the other in the sidewall
  • Using a stove will require the use of a stove jack protector
  • Waterproof – windows must be closed in the rain
  • Zippered sidewall can be folded

2. Stout Bell Tent Cotton Canvas — Best Overall

Stout Bell Cotton Canvas Tent

The shape and overall look of Stout Bell Tent Cotton Canvas tent are quite interesting. It looks fairly luxurious, which is why I see it as the best bell tent for glamping. The tent has a lot going for it, as far as its use in glamping is concerned. Better still, this is an excellent 4 season tent with stove and can be used throughout the year.

The tent is available in two variants, Pro and Ultimate. Sizes available (diameter) are 13 feet and 16.4 feet. Its floor is connected to the sidewalls with zippers, making the structure easily manageable. The tent is set around the central pole, which makes it relatively easier to set up.

Ventilation And Waterproofing

Canvas as a fabric is breathable, so these tents are naturally better at ventilation than those made from synthetic materials. However, some ventilation is still a necessity. The tent has four windows and a very large door to manage ventilation.

Tent windows are covered in no-see-um mesh to allow airflow while blocking critters. The Pro version has the mesh going around the sidewalls as well. This way, if you fold the sidewalls for more ventilation, the mesh keeps critters away.

Stout Bell Tent largely depends on the waterproof quality of canvas to stay dry. And it works wonderfully. Remember to keep the windows and doors shut so water doesn’t seep in.

Stove Jack

A basic 5-inch stove jack is placed on the roof of the tent. When it’s not in use, a flap secured by velcro covers the jack. Should you put a stove inside, the jack will come in handy. While the tent doesn’t list it as a necessity, I’ll still recommend using a stove jack protector.

Tent Highlights

  • Available in two variants and several sizes
  • Waterproof, provided windows are closed
  • One 5-inch stove jack at the roof
  • It might be prudent to use a stove jack protector before you use a stove in this tent
  • Zippered sidewall can be folded

3. PlayDo 4-Season Waterproof Cotton Canvas Bell Tent — Best Range Of Choices

PlayDo 4-Season Waterproof Cotton Canvas Bell Tent

PlayDo 4-Season Waterproof Cotton Canvas Bell Tent is notable for the rather wide range of accessories and options. The tent is available in several variations and options, which makes it easier to get your preferred configuration.

Maybe get an awning for the tent, choose the window size, and pick your preferred tent size. Of course, most of these options are available with other tents as well, but PlayDo makes it more accessible.

This canvas tent with stove jack offers pretty good value and is relatively cheap. The tent fabric is 300gsm cotton, which helps with waterproofing and breathability of the tent.

Ventilation And Waterproofing

The large door and windows make ventilation easier. Should you need to close those, strategically placed vents will keep the airflow going. The windows are covered with no-see-um mesh, so there’s little to worry about critters.

The tent fabric is waterproof and the flooring is heavy-duty. You don’t have to worry about water entering the tent. Although sustained rainfall might pose problems.

Stove Jack

A 5-inch stove jack is placed at the roof of the tent. When not in use, the jack can be secured by a flap held in place with velcro. When in use, it’s best to use a protector to ensure the tent fabric is not harmed by the heat.

Tent Highlights

  • Great value
  • Several options available for customization
  • Waterproof, as long as the windows remain closed
  • The 5-inch stove jack will need a protector

4. White Duck Outdoors Premium Luxury Avalon Canvas Bell Tent — Most Comfortable

White Duck Outdoors Premium Luxury Avalon Canvas Bell Tent with Stove Jack

White Duck Outdoors Premium Luxury Avalon Canvas Bell Tent is a quality construction. It could very well be a prime example of the yurt-style glamping tents. The large door and the large windows make quite an impression. It is available in two variants, viz. water repellant and fire & water repellant.

Sizes available for this tent are:

  • 13 feet
  • 16.5 feet
  • 20 feet

The tent floor is a high-density PVC groundsheet that can last a very long time. The tent fabric too is high quality and will easily hold up to testing weather conditions.

Ventilation And Waterproofing

The large tent door is backed by a quality no-see-um mesh to allow for easy ventilation. The large windows too are covered in mesh and have YKK zippers to easily open and close the windows. If necessary, even the sidewalls can be rolled to ease the ventilation of this tent.

The quality fabric is breathable and keeps the tent comfortable. However, should the windows and door be closed, the strategically placed vents allow for ventilation.

The quality fabric and its treatment keep the tent waterproof. You can be well-assured that the tent won’t leak water. Additionally, the heavy-duty floor also keeps water away and your tent dry.

Stove Jack

A five-inch stove jack is placed at the roof of the White Duck Outdoors Premium Luxury Avalon Canvas Bell Tent. The weather flap is designed to handle high-temperature so there is no need to buy any accessories for the jack. A flap covers the jack when it’s not in use.

Tent Highlights

  • Very comfortable
  • High-quality construction
  • Available in two variants and several sizes
  • Waterproof
  • Includes 5-inch stove jack

5. Unistrengh 4 Season Large Waterproof Cotton Canvas Bell Tent — Useful Cheap Option

Unistrengh 4 Season Large Waterproof Cotton Canvas Bell Tent

Unistrengh 4 Season Large Waterproof Cotton Canvas Bell Tent is a value option that is available in several sizes. It’s as good as any canvas tent, though perhaps not as resilient. It does still hold pretty well. A good thing is that this tent is available in several size options:

  • 9.8 feet
  • 13 feet
  • 16.4 feet
  • 20.7 feet
  • 23 feet

So you can get this tent for sizes ranging from just a couple of people to a large party. The fabric used is 300 gsm cotton. The PVC floor is heavy-duty and can hold its own against some water on the ground.

Ventilation And Waterproofing

The use of canvas makes this tent fairly waterproof. It may not be top-notch, but it’s still canvas and will keep water out of your tent.

As for ventilation, the breathable canvas is a big plus. The oversized door and windows can be put into service as well. Vents placed at the roof add to ventilation and keep your tent comfortable.

Stove Jack

A 5-inch stove jack is available at the roof of this tent. It can be covered by a flap when not in use. If you do choose to use it, remember to use a protector because the fabric won’t handle heat all that well.

Tent Highlights

  • Value for money
  • Good ventilation
  • Acceptable waterproofing
  • Includes 5-inch stove jack
  • Stove jack must be backed by a protector before use

6. Russian-Bear Hot Tent Wood Burning Stove — Best Combination

Russian-Bear Hot Tent Wood Burning Stove

Russian-Bear Hot Tent Wood Burning Stove is a quality combo to use when you’re out camping in the cold. This is a dome-shaped tent that is designed to be useful in unforgiving winters. The tent is available as a combo that includes the tent, floor, and a stove.

The tent fabric is double layered for insulation and keeping the tent warm. Its floor is similarly sturdy and heavy-duty to keep the cold out and the warmth in. Should you want to use the tent in summers, remove the inner layer. Or, keep the layer if you’re camping somewhere hot enough to use an air-conditioner for tents

This is obviously not a glamping tent, but if your priority is staying warm, this is the tent you want.

Ventilation And Waterproofing

The tent is completely waterproof. Its exterior awning is made from high-quality oxford fabric. Taped seams and a protective skirt around the tent ensure water stays out.

Several vents and windows are placed to allow for ventilation. Although admittedly, the tent’s structure doesn’t quite encourage airflow. It can get a bit stuffy, but the tent is designed to stand very cold temperatures. Even so, it remains acceptably comfortable, even with the lack of ventilation.

Stove Jack

A specialized fabric that can withstand temperature up to 1200 degrees makes this tent safer to use with a stove. The stove jack has a stainless steel ring with the chimney to protect the fabric from heat. By using a quality fabric and extra protective measures, the tent lowers the probability of a fire accident.

Tent Highlights

  • Can withstand cold weather with relative ease
  • Expensive
  • Combo of tent, floor, and stove
  • Stove jack includes a protective ring to keep tent fabric safe
  • Four-season tent
  • Relatively lightweight
  • Lacks ventilation, but can withstand harsh weather conditions

Canvas Tent With Stove Jack — A Quick Buying Guide

Ventilation Is All Important

If you’re putting a stove inside your tent, ventilation takes on a very important role. Even with a good setup and stove, there’s always a chance of carbon monoxide buildup. This can prove quite dangerous, so ventilation is important.

Apart from this, ventilation also plays a role in the general comfort inside the tent. Canvas, which is the most popular material for four-season tents, is very breathable and thus comfortable. The presence of vents in the tent ensures air movement and greater comfort for the tent.

Usability Of The Stove Jack

While there are several canvas tents with stove jack, it remains important to consider how they handle the heat. The stove jack should have a protective covering that keeps it safe from the heat of the stove/chimney.

Many canvas tents, especially the budget models, don’t have quality protection against stove heat. In such cases, it is important to buy a tent stove protector or heat shield to protect tent fabric near the jack.

Budget And Usage Considerations

A four-season tent usually costs substantially more than normal 2-3 season tents. So keep your budget considerations in mind. It is worth noting that a quality canvas tent will easily last years, even with a lot of use.

Usability concerns are important as well. Tent weight, ease of setup, and comfort should figure in the decision-making process. Expect the average winter tent with stove to weigh substantially more than conventional tents.

Moving these tents can be quite a chore. You’re unlikely to take one hiking, but they’re an absolute delight for car camping. Setting up a heavy tent can require a fair amount of work as well, even if it’s easy to set up, like a bell tent. Of course, non-canvas options are also available for four-season tents, though canvas is often the popular choice.

Making The Stove Jacket Tent Choice

There are a fair number of options to help you choose the right winter tent. My suggestion is to avoid the absolutely bottom of the barrel, cheap tents. Unless, of course, you’re expecting a very mild winter. A quality tent that can hold a stove and its chimney is far more valuable in the cold winter.

My top choice for this category is the Stout Bell Tent Cotton Canvas. Although if you are focused on quality, pick the White Duck Outdoors Premium Luxury Avalon Canvas Bell Tent. If you’re expecting particularly cold weather, Russian-Bear Hot Tent is the winter tent with stove jacket to pick.

Finding The Pet Tent For Your Needs

When You Need A Dog Camping Tent

If you have a relatively small tent that’s just big enough for you and your gear, making space for the dog can be tough. Besides for any small tent, even a 2-person tent, having a dog with you can feel a bit crowded. The dog may disturb your sleep through the night as he/she adjusts to the new surroundings, or maybe get extra vigilant. Having to let the dog out and back in is a chore by itself.

A separate pet tent fixes these issues. The dog can have his own sleeping place, and both of you can be more comfortable. Of course, be sure that you are in a place where it is safe to use a dog tent.

Features For Your Pet Tent

You want your pet to be comfortable. The care that goes into selecting a dog tent is basically the same as what goes into picking your tent. Pick a tent that is suitable for the size of your dog or cat. Be mindful of ventilation and the ease with which the pet can enter or leave the tent.

Waterproofing is another important feature. If you are considering camping somewhere where rain is a possibility, a sturdy waterproof tent is what you want. And of course, you want your tent to be durable! Pets aren’t going to give the tent tender loving care. Even the most well-behaved pet can do some damage.

Outdoor or At-Home Pet Tent

Not all tents built for your dog or cat are meant to be taken camping. There are several tents that are built for use at home. This can include tents that are placed inside your home, and those placed outside in the yard or lawn.

A nice pet-house tent can be a lovely thing that you, and your pet will both love. It also gives a unique look as a decoration spot for your home. A playful dog teepee tent or cat tent looks very cool inside a home. You can also leave the tent setup in your yard so the pets can play and rest as they like it.

Be sure to familiarize your pet with their tent before you take them camping. A cat or dog getting freaked out at their new living arrangement in the middle of nowhere is not going to be fun.

Best Pet Tents That Will Delight Your Pet And You

1. Yosemite Pet Dome Tent

Yosemite Pet Dome Tent

Yosemite Pet Dome tent is good enough to house your pet with comfort and great features. By all appearances, it looks like a traditional tent. Until you consider its size and general dimensions, that is. The dimensions of this tent are 48×37.4-inch and the center height is 25.5-inch.

It’s not all shape, the tent makes an effort to stay true to features that are required for camping. The fabric is 70D nylon and is rated waterproof for PU 100mm. There is no seam-sealing either, so I would recommend waterproofing the tent before taking it camping. So yeah, it’s good for light rain, but don’t expect it to hold up in medium or heavy rain. That’s kind of a bummer because, for the price they’re asking, I would have liked a more outdoor-ready tent.

The tent is held in place using aluminum rods. The construction is pretty sturdy and you can expect the tent to hold up to wind. Its rainfly acts pretty nicely as well. Both the front and back doors on the tent have mesh for good ventilation.

Pros:

  • Good quality construction
  • Holds well to wind
  • Can handle some rain
  • Spacious
  • Well-ventilated

Cons:

  • No seam-sealing to waterproof the tent
  • Expensive

2. Petego Umbra Portable Pet House and Containment System

Petego Umbra Portable Pet House and Containment System

Petego Umbra Portable Pet House is available in three sizes – small, medium, and large. Each of these is well-constructed and designed to be spacious and comfortable for your pet. The medium size measures 30×30 inches and is 29-inches tall. That’s quite a cuboidal shape, but a spacious one anyway. It does have all the looks of a comfy cabin tent.

An interesting umbrella-style mechanism is placed at the top of the tent, which makes it possible to set up and pack away this tent easily and quickly. On a side note, this mechanism is increasingly popular. Similar application can be seen on popular instant tents like the Toogh 3-4 person tent.

There’s plenty of room for ventilation through the sides and the mesh roof of the tent. Once you put up the rainfly, the tent roof becomes waterproof. The rainfly covers only the roof, but the mesh on the sides and doors will still let water in. There’s no seam-sealing either. You’ll either need a better rainfly, or have your bet out the tent in case there is rain.

Pros:

  • Good quality construction
  • Easy to setup and pack away
  • Comfortable and well-ventilated

Cons:

  • Expensive
  • Nominal waterproofing

See current price on Amazon

3. PETTOM Dog Cat Camping Tents

Pettom Dog Cat Camping Tents

Another nice scaled-down tent for pets, this tent has breathable mesh windows on all sides, plus a large door for easy entry and exit. The large zippered doors, as well as the window flaps, can be tied up, keeping the tent well-ventilated and easy to access for the pet.

The tent measures 45.3×34.6 inches and has a center height of 28.3-inches. That’s plenty of room for most pets to chill and enjoy their day out. It weighs just 2.8 lbs and is easy to carry along. What I like about this tent is that it makes a better effort at outdoor use.

The fabric of the tent is waterproof. PETTOM Dog Cat Camping Tent is made from 210D polyester and is water-resistant. That matches very well with the water-resistant tarp bottom that has been sealed for extra protection. The tent will manage to stay dry in light to medium rain. It is overall a fairly useful tent, and one that has what it takes to go into the great outdoors.

Pros:

  • Water-resistant fabric and tent floor
  • Holds up well in wind
  • Plenty of ventilation
  • Spacious

Cons:

  • The tent fabric feels flimsy at some parts
  • Can take some effort setting up

4. Winterial Outdoor Pop Up Dog Tent

Winterial Outdoor Pop-Up Pet Tent

Like other tents from the brand, Winterial Outdoor Pop-Up Dog Tent is a quality product. Your pets will love this tent when they visit the beach, and they’re bound to make good use of the oversized door. A mesh covers the door while the fabric can be folded upwards to allow greater ventilation.

Winterial has included a 2-inch thick pad that snaps to the bottom of the tent when needed. It adds to the comfort of this tent. Being easily removable, the pad gives you the option of not having to carry it along if it isn’t needed. The lining of the tent is washable for easier maintenance.

The tent measures 64×30 inches and has a center height of 29-inches. These dimensions make it fairly usable as a large dog tent as well. It weighs just 2.6 lbs, making it fairly convenient to carry along. The fabric used is fairly durable and comes with UV protection for added safety. As a popup tent, it is really quick to setup. It’s the packing away that is difficult, so do some practice folding your pop up tent.

Pros:

  • Spacious
  • Quick to setup
  • Well-ventilated
  • Included pad can help make it more comfortable

Cons:

  • Can take some effort packing away
  • Included instructions aren’t helpful

5. Yolafe Portable Pet Tent Cave Bed

Yolafe Portable Pet Tent Cave Bed

Yolafe Portable Pet Tent is a well-made tent with great features that make it fit for the outdoors. The tent fabric is 600D Oxford cloth with a PU coating rated at 1500mm. This tent is waterproof and will handle rainfall without getting your best friend wet. The high-quality fabric is also resistant to damages from claw strikes and bites, allowing this tent to be more durable.

There are large mesh windows on the doors offering excellent ventilation, and the rainfly covers most of the tent. Interior dimensions of the tent are 36×36 inches and the center height is 26-inches. The one thing that can be considered as something of a drawback here is the 5.7 lbs weight of the tent. It isn’t much if you’re car camping, but not very attractive if you’re hiking.

Pros:

  • Good value for money
  • Remarkable waterproofing
  • Well-ventilated
  • High-quality construction

Cons:

  • Somewhat heavy at 5.7 lbs

6. alcott Pup Tent

alcott Pup Tent

The name of the alcott Pup Tent may encourage you to think of it as a small dog tent. It is actually fairly spacious and can be used for larger dogs as well. Also, weighing in at just 1.5 lbs, this tent is great to take along for hiking as well. The tent has five mesh windows to allow for better ventilation and can be an amazingly comfortable and cozy place.

This tent is not waterproof. It has a waterproof floor which can be useful in dealing with the morning dew. However, don’t expect this tent to present any protection against the rain. Dimensions for this tent are 32×42 inches, and the center height is 30-inches.

Pros:

  • Lightweight
  • Spacious
  • Well-ventilated

Cons:

  • No waterproofing
  • Construction quality leaves something to be desired

7. porayhut Portable Outdoor Pet Tent

porayhut Portable Outdoor Pet Tent

porayhut Portable Outdoor Pet Tent is large and spacious for pets to enjoy. This isn’t a tent that you take along for camping outdoors, but one you place in your yard. The tent is largely made of mesh, so it is very well-ventilated. Pets will like this, and indoor cats will especially love this tent.

There are two large doors on this tent. One large zippered door can serve as a general entry and exit. The other door is in the shape of a circle, where you can add tunnels for the entertainment of your indoor cats, and maybe even dogs. Cats especially love that setup and can walk around comfortably without any distractions or trouble.

Pros:

  • Made from high-quality 210D Oxford fabric
  • Spacious
  • Lightweight

Cons:

  • Can take some effort in packing away
  • Questionable longevity due to low resistance to bites and claws

8. PURR…FECT FENCE Purrfect Play Tent

Purrfect Play Tent

Quality construction and spaciousness are the hallmarks of this tent. The tent is purr…fect to use when you have multiple pets and would like a nice tent to cover them. The body of the tent is mostly mesh, though they have taken care to consider quality so it can withstand bites and claws from pets.

Dimensions for this tent are 76×72 inches and the center height is 40-inches. Evidently it has a greater area than some 1-2 person tents. So make good use of the area and keep your pets comfortable.

A rainfly is included with the tent to help it withstand the weather. The rainfly is waterproof to some extent, but the tent floor isn’t quite designed to withstand rain. In anything beyond light rain, water will likely make its way to the tent floor.

Pros:

  • Quality construction
  • Plenty of space
  • Well-ventilated

Cons:

  • Minimal effort at waterproofing
  • Expensive

Picking The Best Pet Tent

Picking nice dog tents, or for that matter a cat tent requires some effort, but can be very rewarding. There is nothing wrong with sharing your tent with your pet, though it can sometimes get inconvenient. Pet tents take away that problem, and your pets and you can all be in comfort. Like your own tent, check the waterproofing of your pet’s tent, especially if it has started to rain. Tents can have problems with waterproofing, and it’s better to catch the problem before your pet gets soaked.

Factors To Consider When Picking Up A Teepee Tent

Size And Setup Difficulty

In some respects, the size of a tent and its setup difficulty are directly related. Larger sized tents need more effort in setting them up. The general wisdom is to pick a tent slightly larger than the number of people it is supposed to inhabit.

For example, if you intend to have four people in a tent, purchasing a 6-person tent can be better. While a four-person tent is very likely to hold four people, they’d be closely packed without much room for movement or gear.

Keep in mind, larger tents often need more people to set them up. See the manufacturer’s instructions, and make sure you have the right number of adults to set up the tent. Struggling for hours trying to put up a tent is no one’s idea of fun. On the same note, do a practice run of setting up the tent before you leave for your camping trip. It helps – a lot!

Tent Materials, Weight, And Waterproofing

All of these are important factors, and they’re all closely related. The tent materials and fabric you choose decides the tent’s weight and can have an impact on waterproofing. Most popular tent fabrics tend to be waterproof or will be water-resistant at the very least.

Most modern tents are made from nylon or polyester. These are lightweight, are treated for waterproofing, and have a fairly good lifetime. Another popular material is cotton canvas. This material is breathable, easily treated for waterproofing, and can last several years. As a downside, cotton canvas tends to be heavier and more expensive.

Even if you purchase a waterproof tent, check how well it performs. Some tents may need waterproofing, especially along the seams.

15 Best Teepee Tents Reviewed

1. DANCHEL 13ft Light Weight Tipi Family Tent for Camping 4000 Pro

DANCHEL 13ft Light Weight Tipi Family Tent

Danchel Camping 4000 Pro is designed as a yurt tent. The very spacious tipi tent has a diameter of 13-feet (4 meters) and a maximum center height of 8-feet (2.5 meters). An advantage of the yurt style is that most of the ground space covered by the tent is actually usable.

A classic teepee tent would slope towards the top right from the ground. However, using a yurt means that its vertical walls allow more usable space. Danchel’s tent is made from 300D Oxford fabric coated with silver. Amongst other benefits, this gives the tent a UV protection of up to 99% and a waterproof rating of 5000mm. The bottom sheet is made from 300D Silver coated ripstop plaid oxford cloth, and offers the same waterproofing and UV protection.

A large door makes entering and exiting the tent very comfortable and easy. Ventilation is provided by five large windows and three vents on the roof. Additionally, the tent includes two transparent windows that can be covered or can stay open to give you a clear view even if it is raining.

Weighing at 25 lbs, the tent is designed for use by 5-8 people.

Pros:

  • Good quality fabric
  • Spacious interiors
  • Large doors and windows for ventilation and natural light

Cons:

  • Can be difficult to pack away
  • Lacks stability in wind

2. PlayDo 4-Season Waterproof Cotton Canvas Bell Tent

PlayDo 4-Season Waterproof Cotton Canvas Bell Tent

PlayDo 4-Season Waterproof Cotton Canvas Bell Tent attempts to bring in comfort and luxury, while trying to stay in a budget range. Well, canvas tents can’t really be cheap, but they sure can try to not be overly expensive. Styled as a yurt, this bell tent is available in several sizes, and even has an eye on glamping.

The tent fabric is made from 300gsm cotton fabric and is treated to be waterproof. Additional care has been taken in the form of taped seams for better waterproofing. PlayDo calls this a 4-season tent and believes it to be useful for winters as well. For additional comfort, the tent comes with stove burning vent placed at its roof. This sleeve can accommodate a five-inch diameter for a wood-burning stove.

Pros:

  • Breathable canvas provides ventilation and comfort
  • 4-season tent
  • Zippable windows with no-see-um mesh
  • Includes stove sleeve

Cons:

  • Heavy
  • Costs significantly more than comparable non-canvas tents

3. Winterial 6-7 Person Teepee Tent, 12′ x 12′

Winterial 6-7 Person Teepee Tent

This Winterial tent is a classic teepee tent. Its shape and form are very like what you’d imagine, and it does very well bring along the benefits of teepee tents. With a diameter of 12-feet, the tent is very spacious and can be comfortably used by a family for camping.

Winterial 6-7 Person Teepee Tent fabric is 210T Polyester. A “rain cap” is placed at the top of the tent for additional waterproofing. The tarp for the base is fairly good at waterproofing as well. Still, I would not rely on this tent where anything above mild to moderate rainfall is expected. This is a good tent, and it might hold up for a while in heavy rain. But I prefer not to be a betting man when in the great outdoors.

The advertised capacity is 6-7 people, but I’ll say a comfortable number is more in the range of 3-4 people. Even choosing four people may be pushing it. The biggest benefits of this tent are that it weighs just 15lbs, and its large windows and door offer considerable help with ventilation.

Pros:

  • Lightweight
  • Acceptable waterproofing
  • Zippered doors on two sides for easy access
  • Comparatively easy to set up

Cons:

  • The tent needs a lot of stakes and lines
  • Packing it away can be troubling

4. DANCHEL 4-Season Family Cotton Bell Tents

DANCHEL Cotton Bell Tent with Two Stove Jackets

DANCHEL 4-Season Family Cotton Bell Tents are available in several size options, going all the way from 10-ft diameter to 20-ft diameter. These tents are designed to be large and spacious. Plus, the overall luxury treatment doesn’t fail to catch the eye, making this one of the best teepee tents available.

The tent is made from 285GSM cotton canvas fabric and is rated waterproof for 3000mm water column. A 540GSM PVC floor provides a thick layer for the ground, and provides solid waterproofing for this tent.

Danchel has included two stove jackets on the tent, one placed at the walls and the other at the roof. Vertical balls of this bell tent are connected via zippers. These can be removed for better ventilation, and to create a canopy-style tent that’s especially useful for warm summer months.

Pros:

  • Two stove jackets offer more options
  • Vertical walls can be removed or added conveniently
  • Excellent waterproofing
  • Good ventilation

Cons:

  • Expensive
  • Heavy

5. Tahoe Gear Bighorn XL 18′ x 18′

Tahoe Bighorn XL

A classic teepee tent, the Tahoe Gear Bighorn XL is made from high-quality polyester and has a durable floor to add to waterproofing. A rain cap placed at the tip of the tent helps in keeping rainwater out, and adds more usability to this tent.

The large, strategically placed windows and vents ensure that it has good ventilation. It’s pretty good at combating humidity and condensation buildup. With a diameter of 18-feet, the tent is designed to accommodate 12 people and is indeed one of the best 12-person tents available right now. Again, keep in mind that the advertised number is usually higher than the number of people that can be comfortably accommodated in a tent.

Being a big tent, the Tahoe Gear Bighorn XL includes two large doors for easy access. It is priced for great value. However, the fact that it lacks mesh on the doors is the fly in the ointment here.

Pros:

  • Spacious tent
  • Good ventilation
  • Performs very well against wind and rain
  • Good value for money

Cons:

  • No mesh on doors
  • Floor and sides of the tent don’t zip up, so there’s always a gap

6. Vidalido 12’x10’x8’Dome Camping Tent 5-6 Person

Vidalio Teepee Camping Tent

Vidalido 12’x10’x8’Dome Camping Tent is an interesting take on teepee tents. This tent looks pretty conventional, but it’s the extra effort put into the awnings that gives it an interesting look. The tent material is anti-tear 190T patterned polyester and 150D Oxford fabric. Steel poles are put into service to ensure the tent stays upright in winds.

Extra care has been put into waterproofing the tent with careful stitching, taping, and caulking. Doors and windows of the tent are covered in high-density no-see-um nylon mesh designed for better ventilation. The tent structure has been set up for easy portability. Though I certainly won’t take it hiking or mountaineering, it is acceptable for use with car camping.

Pros:

  • Well-ventilated
  • Relatively easy to set up and pack away
  • Acceptable waterproofing

Cons:

  • Tent fabric feels flimsy
  • Provided instructions aren’t very useful or helpful

7. Wenzel 11.5 x 10 Foot Shenanigan 5 Person Teepee Camping Tent

Wenzel Shenanigan 5 person Teepee Tent

When Wenzel named their tent Shenanigan, they probably meant it as a warning! The Wenzel 11.5 x 10 Foot Shenanigan 5 Person Teepee Camping Tent can be weirdly temperamental, though it makes up for it in usability and a good price point.

The tent has a single-pole setup and can be put in place rather quickly. Its large door goes along with three windows for good ventilation, but the tent doesn’t stop at that. There are vents on the roof and at the bottom of the tent to ensure airflow stays optimal. Made from polyester, this tent can withstand light to medium rain, though I’d prefer the rain stayed on the “light” side.

I’ll also give it points for its good looks. It’s a bit refreshing to see a tent that isn’t afraid of flaunting patterns!

Pros:

  • Very easy to setup and pack away
  • Great starter tent
  • Good ventilation

Cons:

  • The tent feels a bit flimsy
  • Waterproofing is only good for a light drizzle

8. Pep Step TeePee Tent For Kids

Pep Step TeePee Tent For Kids

A simple and playful kids teepee tent, the Pep Step TeePee looks cute and useful. The tent fabric is made from 100% natural, unpainted cotton blend canvas. This is a superior material for kids tents and poses no health risks. Use of canvas does make the tent slightly expensive, but it also makes for a kids tent with fewer worries about their health and use of the tent.

The tent is held together by pine wood poles, which are free of chemical odors and harmful substances. For added convenience and a full setup, the tent includes a floor covering, curtains, and windows.

Pros:

  • High-quality natural materials
  • Canvas construction
  • Built to last

Cons:

  • Expensive
  • Pinewood poles are held together by flimsy plastic/ PVC connectors

9. MallBest Kids Play Tents

MallBest Kids Play Tents

A teepee for kids, the MallBest Kids Play Tent is a simple and useful tent. The primary fabric used in this tent is polyester, though for whatever reason, the company mentions canvas in its description. The tent is held together by poles made from wood and takes on a very classic teepee tent appearance.

Practically speaking, this is a bareboned tent – a polyester sheet held together by wooden poles. On the plus side, the pattern on the fabric is playful, the tent is easy to set up, and offers good value for money. In most cases, the polyester can simply be wiped clean. I see this as a huge win for kids’ tents!

Pros:

  • Good value for money
  • Easy to setup
  • Interesting patterns and design

Cons:

  • Incorrect description/ claims by the seller
  • Included instructions are not very helpful

10. Hill and Gully Teepee Tent for Kids

Hill and Gully Teepee Tent for Kids

Hill and Gully Teepee Tent has beautiful illustrations that make it more lovable for use as a tent for kids. I love that little window and its small curtains. It isn’t much, but it definitely is cute. Put together with other illustrations and little touches, this does look like a very fun tent for kids.

The tent is made from cotton canvas and is held together by poles “derived” from New Zealand pine wood. According to the seller, the tent has been independently lab tested and has a Child Safety Certificate 0-12 by CPSIA.

Pros:

  • High-quality materials
  • Excellent quality and attention to detail
  • Has a child safety certificate
  • Easy to set up

Cons:

  • Expensive

11. Ozark Trail 7 Person Teepee Tent

OZARK Trail Family Teepee Tent is designed to hold seven people, and makes available 105 square feet of space. The teepee design allows a maximum center height of 92-inches, which is generous. But then as is the case with most teepee tents, do not expect more than 2-3 people to be able to stand upright in the tent at any given time. It’s simple geometry, unlike the (relatively) flat walls of cabin tents, teepees don’t quite allow everyone to enjoy the center height.

For better ventilation, the oversized door is accompanied by four windows and three vents. The available space is enough to accommodate two queen size mattresses. The lack of a center pole frees up more inside the tent. For added convenience and better protection against the elements and rain, Ozark Trail 7 person teepee tent includes a sewn-in PE floor.

Pros:

  • Very easy to set up and pack away
  • Good ventilation
  • Good value for money

Cons:

  • Waterproofing holds up only to mild rain
  • The tent struggles with wind

12. Hasika 12fx10x8ft Lightweight Teepee Tent

Hasika 12fx10x8ft Lightweight Teepee Tent

The interestingly styled Hasika Lightweight Teepee Tent is made from 190T polyester treated for waterproofing and rated at 3000 mm. The fabric is complemented by the groundsheet, which is made from 201D Oxford fabric and rated at 4000mm waterproof index.

This is a dual-layer tent, with the inner layer being a mesh fabric. The outer layer is the rainfly. A design like this is pretty common for most tents, but somewhat rare where teepee tents are concerned. Overall, the setup works pretty well, with one disadvantage that it takes down airflow a notch. On the plus side, this tent has better waterproofing than its competition.

Hasika says the tent is good enough for four people. I think that may be pushing it, especially with the central pole taking up space.

Pros:

  • Good waterproofing
  • Easy to setup
  • Lightweight – weighs just 13.6 lb

Cons:

  • Below average ventilation
  • The mesh body feels flimsy

13. MIER Ultralight Tent 3-Season Backpacking Tent

MIER Ultralight Tent 3-Season Backpacking Tent

MIER Ultralight Tent 3-Season Backpacking Tent is an intriguing single-person teepee tent. It still maintains the broad conical shape we expect from teepee tents. However, as an ultralight single person tent, it gets a lowered height. The teepee tent/ pyramid shape still gives it enough of a center height for a person to sit up upright – a luxury for lightweight single person hiking tents.

Weighing at just 1.7lb, this is a tent you can take along mountaineering or hiking. Given its unique positioning, I’d say it is the best teepee tent we have for hiking! The rainfly is made from 15D nylon, treated for waterproofing and rated at 5000mm of hydrostatic head. Going the extra mile, the rainfly is seam-taped and has a water-repellent coating. The bathtub floor of the tent is made from 20D nylon. With silicone/PU waterproof coating, this has a rating of 6000mm.

The tent is relatively easy to set up and has great ventilation. The rainfly covers the mesh body pretty well but leaves out enough space for good airflow. Oddly enough, the tent does not include the trekking pole needed to set it up, and it must be purchased separately.

Pros:

  • Lightweight tent is great for hiking
  • Excellent waterproofing
  • Simple to setup and pack away

Cons:

  • Trekking pole must be purchased separately
  • The tent can feel cramped

14. River Country Products One Person Trekking Pole Tent

River Country Products One Person Trekking Pole Tent

Another single person teepee-style tent, the River Country Products One Person tent adds some spaciousness and height. Weighing just 2.8 lbs, the tent is useful for hiking and does take to that role pretty easily.

The mesh body of this tent is covered by a rainfly for waterproofing. A thick bathtub floor adds to the waterproofing and overall comfort of this tent. The mesh body of the tent offers some ventilation, however, that is limited once the rainfly comes into play. To tackle this problem, the tent includes a rear-roof vent for the rainfly. It helps, but is not optimal.

You will need a trekking pole to setup the tent, though it is not included in the package and must be purchased separately. Ultralight hikers may want to skip the pole and instead tie the tip of the tent to an overhanging branch to maintain its shape.

Pros:

  • Lightweight enough for hiking
  • Acceptable waterproofing
  • Simple to setup and pack
  • Good value for money

Cons:

  • Condensation can be a problem
  • Trekking pole is not included with the tent

15. TETON Sports Sierra 12 Canvas Tent

Teton Sports Sierra Canvas Tent

One of the best canvas tents available, the Teton Sports Sierra is spacious and comfortable. The tent has a diameter of 12-feet, and offers a usable area of 113 square feet. Teton has employed high-quality canvas for the tent, which repels water and keeps the tent breathable. Reinforced seams also come into play in keeping this tent waterproof. These features add to the waterproofing and ventilation of the tent. It certainly brings more comfort to this luxurious tent.

Its heavy-duty welded floor works perfectly with the canvas, and plays a role in waterproofing and prolonging the life of this tent. Oversized doors and windows on the tent are covered with no-see-um mesh. These work together with the vents on the tent to ensure good ventilation.

Once you remove the zippered connectors, the vertical walls of the tent can be folded away. Teton Sports Sierra tents can be used as a full tent or a canopy.

Pros:

  • Excellent ventilation
  • Waterproof
  • High-quality fabric
  • Long-lasting tent

Cons:

  • Expensive
  • The tent is heavy to carry and move

When planning a trip to the great outdoors, it is important to look for the best tent for rain and wind. If you expect just mild weather all the way through your trip, perhaps any tent could do. But it runs the risk of ruining your vacation with just a freak shower. Most tents are water resistant and many tents claim to be waterproof. However, even the best waterproof tent could need your attention to be adequately waterproof. Let’s see how it works!

Quick Pointers For A Tent That Can Stand The Elements

Fabric And Hydrostatic Head Measurement

The most commonly used fabrics for tents are nylon and polyester. Waterproof tents may also use canvas, but this material is heavier and more expensive. A very popular option is polyester coated with polyurethane for waterproofing a tent.

Hydrostatic Head Measurement is used to define the waterproofing of a fabric. Generally speaking, this is measured by filling a tube with water and placing it over the tent fabric. At a certain level, the water goes through the coating and starts seeping into the fabric. This number becomes the HH (Hydrostatic Head) rating of a fabric. Most waterproof fabrics have this number at higher than 1500mm.

Ventilation

All tents run the risk of condensation and compromised waterproofing. A tent with good ventilation will avoid water vapor building inside the tent. This prevents the water vapor from condensing on the walls of the tent and your belongings.

Construction And Maintenance

Irrespective of how good the waterproofing of a tent is, it is bound to degrade with time. Maintenance is thus an important aspect of keeping your tent waterproof for years. Knowing how to waterproof your tent will go a long way in keeping your tent well-maintained.

Another problem point for waterproofing is the seams of the tent. Seams create small holes in the tent fabric, and water will eventually find a way inside through them. Many manufacturers combat this problem by using inverted seams that are not exposed to tent exteriors. In most cases, you will have to use a seam sealer to keep the tent waterproof.

15 Top Waterproof Tents Review

1. Coleman Sundome 4-Person Tent

Coleman Sundome 4 Person Tent

The Coleman Sundome is a well-built tent with some excellent options and features you can count on. This is a 4-person tent, but expect it to be comfortable for about three people at best. There are plenty of color and size options so this tent is conveniently accessible for most requirements.

Personally, I find the dark-room option to be very useful. The dark room coating provides better insulation to the tent and also blocks light from coming in, making it more convenient for sleeping.

The dome shape keeps it well protected from wind and lets the tent stay more stable. But the star here is the waterproofing. Waterproofing for this tent comes from Coleman’s well-received WeatherTec system. This involves inverted seams, bathtub floors that are welded to the tent body, and zipper cuffs made from weather-resistant fabric. The floors are made from 1000D polyethylene, thus ensuring good waterproofing.

Dimensions of the tent are fairly generous, measuring 9×7 feet and a center height of 4-feet 11-inch. Other features include large windows and ground vents for easy ventilation.

Pros:

  • Excellent waterproofing
  • Works well in the wind
  • Good ventilation
  • Reasonably priced

Cons:

  • The overall construction of the tent feels flimsy
  • Tent stakes and poles are below average

2. MSR Elixir 3P Tent

MSR Elixir 3 Person Tent

MSR Elixir is a pretty cool tent to bring along to your hiking trip. This is technically a three-person tent, but if comfort is any value to you, it’s more a one or 2-person tent. As a freestanding tent with color-coded poles, it is reasonably easy to setup. MSR includes a footprint as well as a rainfly with the tent.

Since our focus here is waterproofing, the Elixir is not one to disappoint. A lot of people swear by the quality of these tents, and with good reason. MSR Elixir is one of the best waterproof tents available on the market. And of course, the footprint counts for some waterproofing too.

There are vents and mesh windows/roof in the tent for ventilation. Its rainfly extends past the tent and works with the vestibule to ensure you have some ventilation even if it is pouring outside. Once fully set up, the tent has a large and comfortable sleeping area. There’s also a vestibule for extra storage space.

I wouldn’t say this is expensive, but it isn’t exactly cheap especially when compared to its competition. But that’s a small price to pay for quality. That becomes more important when you’re hiking and not car camping. A car camper will have shelter if the tent starts leaking. For a hiker, the tent is a big deal.

Pros:

  • Good quality construction
  • Excellent waterproofing
  • Can hold its own against wind

Cons:

  • A bit pricey
  • May need to be seam-sealed for proper waterproofing

3. Eureka Copper Canyon 8-Person Tent

Eureka Copper Canyon 8-Person Tent

Eureka Copper Canyon 8-Person Tent is large, spacious, and comfortable. That’s a big part of why Eureka Copper Canyon is one of our favorite 8-person camping tents. As a cabin style tent, the goal here is spaciousness, and that is what it fulfills rather gracefully. It will hold about six people in good comfort, with enough room for everyone to walk about freely and store their gear. Two gear lofts and six storage pockets help with increasing available storage.

A detachable curtain can be put to use in dividing the tent into two rooms. In this setup, each room gets some privacy, and its own door to enter or leave the tent. The available ground area is 13×10 feet, and the center height is 7-feet, good enough for most tall people to walk around comfortably.

The tent has six large windows that work with its roof to provide excellent ventilation. Once the rainfly is fully set up, this waterproof camping tent is ready for work. Eureka makes use of Stormshield polyester for its rainfly, a material with excellent hydrostatic head measurements.

Its biggest drawback is that the tent won’t hold up well in wind. That’s just a tradeoff cabin-style tents have to make between space and windproofing. Another problem point is the floor, which though adequately waterproof, is not thick enough to deal with persistent rainfall. To be fair, this problem is largely due to the big size of the tent. The smaller variants like the 4-person tent aren’t particularly vulnerable from their floor.

Pros:

  • Very spacious
  • Good ventilation
  • Freestanding
  • Adequate waterproofing

Cons:

  • Does not stand well to wind
  • The floor material is too thin for comfort

4. Coleman Evanston Dome Tent with Screen Room

Coleman Evanston Dome Tent With Screen Room

Comfort and pleasure come together for the Coleman Evanston Dome Tent. Like most tents, the capacity is lower when comfort comes into play. If you are considering the possibility of rain, I’ll say this tent is best used by a small family – two adults and a child.

Coleman Evanston has two rooms. The larger, main room forms the primary room, followed by the smaller screen room. There is only one door for the tent, and that goes through the screen room. The tent utilizes polyester taffeta 75D for its construction, which gives it a fairly good waterproofing rating.

Once the rainfly is fully set up, you don’t have to worry much about water coming into the tent. The rainfly also strategically covers the side windows of the tent, while leaving them open. This means you don’t sacrifice ventilation for waterproofing. Additional waterproofing comes from Coleman’s patented WeatherTec system. The bathtub floors are welded with the tent body and the seams are inverted. Its dome shape also allows the Coleman Evanston to hold its ground against the wind.

I particularly like the screen room, and the porch area is my favorite feature in many tents. However, it isn’t quite that good for waterproofing. By virtue of its construction, it must rely on mesh walls and doors, and thus fall victim to rainwater. Thankfully, the main room of the tent does not have any problems with waterproofing.

Pros:

  • Excellent waterproofing of main room in the tent
  • Holds up well against wind
  • Spacious and comfortable
  • Reasonably priced

Cons:

  • Rainwater can pool up in the screen-room area
  • Can be somewhat difficult to pack away

5. TETON Sports Mountain Ultra Tent

Teton Sports Mountain Ultra Tent 2 Person

TETON Sports Mountain Ultra Tent is available in four variants, which go from one person to four-person versions of the tent. The overall design remains the same with each variant, though of course, the weight and size does increase. Mountain Ultra 2 is a pretty good example of this tent. Large enough to house two people, and lightweight enough for hiking.

When setup, the tent measures 82.5×63-inch and center-height of 45-inch. The rainfly is adequately waterproof and includes vents that help the mesh body of the tent with ventilation. Adding to the waterproofing is the thick, tub-like floor. It forms a comfortable base for the inhabitants of the tent, and won’t let water inside the tent.

Its dome style shape and good curvature is an excellent defense against wind. Overall, you can be confident of staying dry even in a particularly nasty rainfall. Total packed weight of the tent is 6.2 pounds. Slightly excessive for hikers, but a good deal for the price.

Pros:

  • Excellent waterproofing
  • Can stand wind
  • Lightweight enough for hiking
  • Thick floor keeps water out

Cons:

  • Heavier than most tents for hiking
  • Construction feels cheap at some points

6. Wenzel 8 Person Klondike Tent

Wenzel 8 Person Klondike Tent

Wenzel 8 Person Klondike is a well-regarded tent. It has been previously featured here as one of our top choices for best family tents. As an 8-person tent, it is spacious and comfortable. In terms of design, it is pretty similar to the Coleman Evanston tent we see on this list. As such, its practical use in this category remains remarkably similar to Evanston.

If you’re expecting rain, this tent is best suited for two adults and maybe 1-2 children. Occupants of this tent should be able to sleep comfortably in the main room. I think it’s best to not consider the screen room as a sleeping area for this style of tents, but more a recreational area or porch. And that’s even more important if you’re expecting rain. By very virtue of its use, the screen room cannot be waterproof. The main room, however, should be, and is waterproof.

Wenzel utilizes Weather Armor technology for waterproofing. That is a fancy way to say that the polyester fabric of the tent is coated in water resistant polyurethane. I would have preferred a hydrophobic coating, but this isn’t a bad deal either. The large windows provide good ventilation, but remain susceptible to rain. Thankfully, the window seams are waterproof, and the windows can be closed.

Pros:

  • Good waterproofing for main room
  • Spacious
  • Excellent ventilation

Cons:

  • Included stakes are low-quality
  • Insufficient waterproofing for screen room

7. Featherstone Outdoor Backpacking 2 Person Tent

Featherstone Outdoor Backpacking 2 Person Tent

The company claims that Featherstone Outdoor Backpacking 2 Person Tent is the tent for ultralight camping. I’d say it is close to that claim. The full-pack weighs 6-lbs, which is a bit on the heavier side. You can take the weight down a notch to 5 lbs for trail setup, or go ultra-light at 3.8 lbs with just the rainfly, footprint, and poles.

Featherstone tent has put in some genuine effort in its waterproofing. A bathtub floor design, taped seams, and waterproof fabric make an excellent combination. The well-constructed body can stand its ground, even for heavy rain.

With an eye on convenience, the two-person tent has one door on either side, and two vestibule areas. The idea is to give both occupants good storage space, and also allow easy entry and exit of the tent. If you use the vestibules for storage (as you are likely to), some part of the door will be obstructed. It isn’t a massive problem, but still something to keep in mind.

Pros:

  • Convenient for hiking and backpacking
  • Good waterproofing
  • Windproof
  • Adequate ventilation

Cons:

  • Could have a lighter weight
  • Tent doors can be obstructed by vestibules

8. Weanas Professional Backpacking Tent

Weanas Professional Backpacking Tent

As a sucker for awnings, I have to say the Weanas Professional Backpacking Tent has a pretty good look. The tent is available in several cheerful color combinations and convenient sizes. For our current purpose, let’s consider this 2-person tent.

The rainfly contains well-placed ventilation openings to ensure the tent remains breathable even in a downpour. Its large doors and vents work together for excellent ventilation. The fabric for the rainfly and tent is waterproof and is rated for 4000mm Hydrostatic Head. The floor is rated for 5000mm. Now those are impressive numbers. However, as we know, the biggest problem for waterproofing a tent is its seams. To better handle that issue, the tent uses fully taped seams.

The rainfly is made from 201T polyester with PU coating, and the tent body is made from 150D Anti-Tear Oxford Cloth. With a weight of just 4.8 pounds, this tent is an impressive contender for the best waterproof tent to buy.

Pros:

  • Excellent waterproofing
  • High-quality materials
  • Windproof

Cons:

  • Could use better ventilation
  • Low-quality stakes put a damper on an otherwise excellent tent

9. Winterial 3 Person Tent

Winterial 3 Person Tent

In several respects, this Winterial 3 Person Tent is very similar to the Weanas Tent that also shows up on this list. The awning of this tent adds a touch of luxury, or well, at least some good looks! Weighing just 4.4 lbs, the tent can also be a good companion for hikers. There are two doors on the tent for added convenience, and the vestibules offer extra storage space. The rainfly is fairly waterproof, and includes ventilation screens for better airflow.

Pros:

  • Adequate waterproofing
  • Lightweight

Cons:

  • Could use better ventilation
  • Low-quality stakes

10. NTK Laredo GT 8 to 9 Person Tent

NTK Laredo GT 8 to 9 Person Tent

When it comes to waterproofing and comfort, the NTK Laredo has been one of the consistently well-performing tents. Designed for 8-9 people, the tent can hold 5-6 people comfortably. The large tent has color-coded poles for easier setup. An included room divider can be employed for creating two rooms in this tent, each with its own door. Both of these are large, D-style doors that make entry and exit easier.

All doors and windows are covered in ultra-thin no-see-um mesh, so you get all the air, and none of the bugs! For its dimensions, the tent has a center height of 6.23 feet, while its length and width measure at 15×10 feet.

Well designed to keep water away, the tent has a rainfly made from double layer 190T polyester laminated with polyurethane coating. The rainfly is rated capable of staying dry even with a 2500 mm water column. The rainfly is complemented by a thick heavy-duty seamless polyethylene floor. An inner silver coated layer on the floor keeps your tent better insulated, and its antifungal qualities surely make the floor a better match. Overall, the bathtub style construction of the floor adds excellent waterproofing to this tent.

Rainfly of the Laredo GT extends over the doors, covering one of the most important areas vulnerable to rain. You won’t risk getting water into the tent every time you open the door.

Pros:

  • High-quality materials
  • Top-quality waterproofing
  • Windproofing
  • Spacious and comfortable
  • Good family tent

Cons:

  • The rainfly is made from a very thin material – though durable, it remains at risk
  • Poles could be of a better quality

11. NTK HUNTER GT 8 To 9 Person Tent

NTK Hunter GT 8 Person Tent

Quite like the NTK Laredo that we saw on this list, the NTK Hunter GT is an excellent and spacious tent. As the name implies, this is primarily geared for hunters. And if the name wasn’t enough, the camo rainfly should be a pretty good hint. Practically speaking, this big dome style tent is the same as the NTK Cherokee GT, except the color scheme. The large dome style tent has an available floor area of 10×12 feet and a center height of 6.1 feet.

This tent is big on waterproofing. NTK Hunter GT rainfly is made from 190T polyester coated with polyurethane. Its floor is a seamless, antifungal, bathtub-style construction that is adept at keeping water out of the tent. The rainfly is rated for 2500mm of Hydrostatic Head. This tent does suffer in ventilation due to the noticeable lack of floor vents. Once the rainfly is wrapped, there is very little room for airflow. On the plus side, its shape provides excellent windproofing.

Pros:

  • Excellent waterproofing
  • Comfortable and spacious
  • Windproof

Cons:

  • Below average ventilation
  • No-see-um mesh underperforms at its job

12. TOMOUNT Or Hikergarden 8-Person Tent

TOMOUNT Or Hikergarden 8-Person Tent

This tent carries along under the names of TOMOUNT or Hikergarden. While a capable tent, I feel it suffers under the yolk of overzealous marketing. If we step aside from those tall claims, it is still a capable tent. However, the tall claims made by marketers end up breeding doubt.

Coming back to the topic, or more specifically, to the specifications, the rainfly is rated for 4000mm water head. The rainfly extends over the windows and doors for better protection against the rain. Each of the windows and doors are covered in no-see-um mesh and offer good ventilation. Its large doors make entering and exiting the tent easier.

Pros:

  • Good waterproofing
  • Excellent ventilation
  • Comfortable and spacious

Cons:

  • The fabric quality could be better
  • The poles feel weak

13. SPRINGBAR Highline 6 Person Canvas Tent

SPRINGBAR Highline 6 Person Canvas Tent

SPRINGBAR Highline 6 Person Canvas Tent is the representative of canvas tents on our list. The tens is made from 100% Cotton Duck Canvas finished to be watertight. This material is accompanied by a heavy-duty vinyl floor that furthers this tent’s waterproofing. Steel poles and steel stakes put together with high-quality guylines make this tent stay stable in winds.

Canvas is an excellent material for tents. It is breathable, offering better airflow, and it takes to waterproofing quite naturally. Better qualities of canvas also make this material suitable for 4-season tents. Canvas is a durable material and you can expect these tents to last for several years. The downsides of these tents are that they can be expensive and heavy when compared to polyester and nylon tents. Springbar Highline has a floor area of 10×10 feet, and a center height of 6.5-feet. Its large windows and doors are covered in no-see-um mesh.

Pros:

  • Excellent waterproofing
  • Windproof
  • Great ventilation
  • High-quality materials

Cons:

  • Expensive
  • Heavy – the tent weighs 74 lbs

14. Naturehike Cloud-Up Tent

Naturehike Cloud-Up Tent

Available in 1, 2, and 3-person variants, Naturehike Cloud-Up tents are available in several colors. I’m going to stay with the 2-person tent for this review. Built for hikers, the tent weighs just 3.75lbs. It is fairly lightweight, and convenient for hikers to carry.

The tent is made from 210T nylon mesh, and the rainfly is made from 210T rip-stop nylon with silicone coating. Water resistance of the rainfly is 3000mm, and it is rated for UV 50+ sun protection.

Dimensions of the tent are 83×49 inches and a center height of 39-inches. When set up, Naturehike Cloud-up gets an outer vestibule for more storage space. The rainfly covers the mesh body of the tent pretty well and keeps the tent safe from rain. Ordinarily, this would hamper airflow and ventilation, but the rainfly keeps room for air circulation, thus keeping ventilation going.

Pros:

  • Lightweight and good for hiking
  • Good waterproofing
  • Windproof

Cons:

  • Tent floor could be better
  • The included stakes aren’t good enough

15. Toogh 5-6 Person Camping Big Horn Tent

Toogh 5-6 Person Camping Big Horn Tent

Toogh 5-6 Person Camping Big Horn Tent is spacious with a cabin-style design. It has a floor area of 9×10 feet and center height at a very generous 74-inch. As a tent for a small family or group, this can be very convenient.

Big Horn Tent has its fabric made from high-quality materials to ensure quality as well as better waterproofing. Its rainfly is made from 210D oxford fabric coated with silicone for better performance. The tent floor is made from PE and is rated at 3000mm of water head. The high-quality barrier and floor create an excellent barrier against water. I’d still seam seal the tent before use, but other than that there isn’t much to worry about.

The tent has one door for easy access and exit. There’s a window on the door that works with other windows around the tent to ensure good airflow. The mesh roof of the tent works pretty well in this regard, and ensures the tent has good ventilation. It does slow down a bit when the rainfly is attached, but stays adequate.

Pros:

  • Good waterproofing
  • Spacious
  • Well ventilated

Cons:

  • Ventilation is sub-optimal with rainfly attached
  • Aluminum ground nails/stakes included with the tent feel rather flimsy

Camping gear is also about making the best of available space. The weight you can carry and space you have can both be at a premium, and this can often cause problems for tall people. Being comfortable in your tent is imperative. All the more better if you can bring your gear in as well. Here are some best tall camping tents – these tents aren’t necessarily tall, but they are built to be comfortable enough for tall people. Take a look!

  5. Coleman Steel Creek Fast Pitch Dome Tent with Screen Room

  10. Toogh 3-4 Person Camping Tent

1. Columbia Sportswear Pinewood 4 Person Dome Tent

Columbia Sportswear Pinewood 4 Person Dome Tent

Pinewood 4 Person Dome Tent is very well made and can be a rather comfortable dwelling for a tall person. Technically a tall 4 person tent, this is best used by 2-3 people comfortably. Like most tents, the advertised number of people, and those it can comfortably accommodate are different numbers.

Where it does stay true, is its convenience for tall people. From the general construction of this tent to sleep area, many characteristics are bound to be helpful for tall people. The extra-high awning ensures easier access in and out of the tent. When fully set up, interiors of the tent measure 9×7 feet, and have a center height of 59-inches.

These are generous dimensions for a tent in this category. Plus, the dimensions are large enough for a tall person to sleep comfortably and have enough room for their gear. The center-height is large enough to allow convenient movement. It obviously won’t allow you to stand up, but for a small tent, it is convenient.

Columbia Sportswear Pinewood tent has a double door construction and four large windows, so ventilation is never a problem. The rainfly provides sufficient cover to the doors and windows in rainy weather. Interiors of the tent have two storage pockets, a gear loft, and an electric cord port.

Pros:

  • Easy to set up and pack
  • Great ventilation
  • Room enough to fit a queen-size airbed

Cons:

  • Lower mesh ventilation panels cannot be closed
  • Could have better waterproofing

2. TOMOUNT 5 Person Tent

TOMOUNT 5 Person Tent

TOMOUNT 5 Person Tent is a spacious and well-constructed tent that is spacious and convenient for a tall person. When fully set up, the dimensions of this tent are 10×8 feet, with a center height of 76-inches. While the sloping roof won’t really allow a tall person to stand up comfortably, you could get by with stooping ever so slightly.

The company says their tent is spacious enough for placing two queen size mattresses. I’d take that claim with a grain of salt, then throw a whole bag of salt over it. Putting two TwinXL mattresses there is pushing it, there is no way queen mattresses make it.

One large D-style doors in the front make it easy to enter and leave the tent. A mesh window at the side of the door, and windows at the opposite end help ventilation. The lack of windows on the sides is noticeable, and ventilation does suffer a bit once the rainfly is placed. On the plus side, the tent has good waterproofing, has an interior gear pocket, and electric cord port.

Pros:

  • Spacious with a good center height
  • Good waterproofing
  • Comfortable

Cons:

  • Below average ventilation
  • Takes effort to set up and pack away

3. Pacific Breeze Easy Setup Beach Tent Deluxe XL

Pacific Breeze Easy Setup Beach Tent Deluxe XL

This conveniently sized beach tent is large enough to hold tall people with ease. It is worth noting that this beach tent is designed as a shelter. Around 3-4 people can sit inside the tent, but it is not meant for anybody to spend the night.

The door on the tent can be opened to become an “extended floor.” When placed, it creates a nice area where you can sit and chill at the beach. The tent fabric offers UPF 50+ protection, and its large windows offer great ventilation for enjoying the breeze at the beach.

Pros:

  • Lightweight and easy to carry
  • UPF 50+ sun protection is great for the beach
  • Very spacious and convenient

Cons:

  • Questionable durability
  • Limited privacy

4. MSR Hubba Hubba NX

MSR Hubba NX

MSR Hubba Hubba NX is a lightweight backpacking tent that really can hold two people in relative comfort. With its complete setup options, the tent weighs merely 3.5 lbs and packs down to a compact 18×6 inches. Enterprising campers are known to reduce the weight to just 2lbs by only packing the necessities for this tent.

This very versatile and capable tent is available in two options; regular and with Xtreme waterproof coating. Choosing the latter adds more than a 100 bucks to your bill, but makes the tent very capable of handling rain. MSR claims that this Xtreme coating lasts at least three times longer than conventional waterproof coatings.

The large doors on this tent make it easy to get in/out of the tent, and can conveniently handle tall people as well. Being a compact 2-person tent, it does well with a 39-inch center height. When set up, the tent offers an internal floor area of 29.5 square feet and a vestibule area of 17.5 square feet.

Pros:

  • Lightweight and packs compact
  • Plenty of space for two people
  • Large vestibule area for storage
  • Excellent waterproofing and windproofing
  • Durable material

Cons:

  • Expensive
  • Even waterproof models need to be seam-sealed by customers before use

5. Coleman Steel Creek Fast Pitch Dome Tent with Screen Room

Coleman Steel Creek Fast Pitch Dome Tent with Screen Room

Coleman Steel Creek is a 2 room, 6 person dome tent that is great for family vacations. The main cabin/room measures 10×9 feet and has a center height of 5-feet 8-inch. The screen room has dimensions at 10×5 feet, and both rooms are large enough to accommodate a queen sized mattress each. Forget the mattress for the screen room, I like it as a good place to lounge and rest during vacation.

This tent is equipped with Coleman’s WeatherTec system for better waterproofing. It has a bathtub-style floor with welded seams, inverted seams for sewing, and zipper cuffs made from weather-resistant fabric for greater protection. Extended awnings over the windows add another element of protection.

Other notable features of this tent include color-coded poles, storage pockets, and an electric port.

Pros:

  • Good waterproofing for main cabin
  • Spacious
  • Good ventilation
  • Convenient to setup

Cons:

  • Insufficient waterproofing on the porch/screen room
  • Can be difficult to pack away

6. CORE 6 Person Instant Cabin Tent

CORE 6 Person Instant Cabin Tent

When you want tents tall enough to stand up in, cabin tents are tough to beat. This Core 6 Person Cabin tent has a center height of 72-inch. That’s good enough height for a tall person, and can allow them to walk around comfortably. A large D-style door on this cabin tent makes it even more convenient for tall people. Core says that the tent is easy to setup and can be completed in just 60 seconds.

The tent is large enough to allow space for two queen size air mattresses to be placed. However, that will practically take over all the area, and there won’t be much left to walk around or to place your gear. The several mesh windows around the tent work with its mesh roof and ground vents to ensure good ventilation.

To offer good waterproofing, Core has employed its H2O block technology for this tent. This involves using water-repellent fabrics, sealed seams, fully taped rainfly, and rain-resistant seals on windows and doors.

Pros:

  • Excellent center height – tall enough to stand up in
  • Very spacious
  • Easy to set up
  • Adequate waterproofing

Cons:

  • The tent does not hold up well in wind
  • Questionable construction quality

7. Kelty Grand Mesa Tent

Kelty Grand Mesa Tent

Kelty Grand Mesa 4-person camping tent offers excellent features and construction. Built for performance, this freestanding tent has dimensions of 98x80x56 inch, the floor and vestibule areas are generous. The three-season tent is designed to be easy to set up and pack away. It includes color-coded stakes for easy set up.

Its full mesh body makes ventilation easy. However, it also sacrifices privacy to achieve this ventilation. Once the rainfly is put into place, the ventilation area decreases dramatically and leaves little room for airflow. Tall people will find the 56-inch center height and the oversized D-style door to their liking.

Multiple mesh storage pockets on the interiors and gear loft loops give you plenty of room for storage. The fully taped seams work to make waterproofing of the tent better. While the seams to help, the onus of protecting the tent’s full mesh body is entirely on the rainfly. It does its job pretty well, but I’ll suggest supplement it with a tarp where possible for added protection from rainwater.

Pros:

  • Large mesh panels for storage
  • Oversized D-style doors make it more convenient for tall people

Cons:

  • Below average waterproofing
  • Ventilation suffers when rainfly is placed
  • No privacy without rainfly

8. Coleman 6-Person Dark Room Sundome Tent

Coleman 6-Person Dark Room Sundome Tent is a whole world of comfort where a good sleep is your priority. In basic design, it is quite similar to the Coleman Steel Creek tent we see on this list. Therefore, let’s start with the big feature here – the dark room.

Coleman says its technology blocks 90% of the sunlight entering a tent. This has two benefits, the first is that it provides insulation for your tent. Without the sun’s rays heating things up in your tent, it will be much better insulated. This keeps the tent cooler through the day, which can practically be a lifesaver on those hot days!

The second benefit, of course, is better sleep! You can’t carry those heavy darkout curtains to camping, but with the tent itself doing most of the work blocking light, you will be able to rest more conveniently. Other notable features of the tent include the WeatherTec system for waterproofing. Here, the bathtub floors with welded seams offer better waterproofing. Add to that inverted and sealed seams, and you have an excellent recipe for waterproofing.

Pros:

  • Spacious with good center-height for tall people
  • Large doors are convenient to use
  • Dark room is excellent for insulation and resting
  • Acceptable waterproofing for the main cabin

Cons:

  • Since there is little protection for the screen room, rainwater pools on its floor
  • Can be difficult to pack away
  • Dark room coating only present on rainfly and windows, leaving big gaps of regular material

9. ALPS Mountaineering Lynx 1-Person Tent

ALPS Mountaineering Lynx 1 Person Tent

For the solo tall hiker, the ALPS Mountaineering Lynx 1-Person Tent is a worthy companion. The biggest feature working in favor of tall people here is the length of 7-feet and 6-inches. While only a large cabin tent can boast to be a 7 foot tall tent, this single person tent can offer more than 7 feet in length! The width is more modes at 2-feet 8-inch, so you will have to be more careful about using your space.

Extra storage is available in the form of vestibules, and the half-mesh walls help with better ventilation. For a high-quality construction, the tent makes use of 75D 185T polyester fly, 75D 185T Poly Taffeta floor, and 7000 Series aluminum poles. The total weight of this tent is 4 lbs 1 oz, though enterprising hikers can reduce it to 3 lbs 5 oz.

Pros:

  • Easy to setup and pack away
  • Convenient length for tall campers
  • Excellent construction
  • Lightweight enough for hiking

Cons:

  • Can feel cramped due to low width
  • Using the vestibule can make the door feel small

10. Toogh 3-4 Person Camping Tent

https://youtu.be/0D-bV_lYJyM

Toogh 3-4 Person Camping Tent is a tall camping tent with high-quality construction that makes it worthy of note. One of the best instant tents available in terms of setup time, this tent also fares very well in packing it up. To speak numbers, the tent has a center height of  5’5”, which is very convenient for a 4 person tent.

The company highlights the high-quality construction of this tent with the 210D Oxford coated with silicone. Similarly, the tent floor is made from 210T fabric. Both fabrics are designed to be waterproof, with the tent fabric rated waterproof at 3000mm, and the floor rated waterproof at 10,000mm water.

Pros:

  • High-quality construction
  • Quick to set up and easy to pack
  • Good waterproofing

Cons:

  • The hexagonal floor can feel inconvenient
  • Tent seams could have been sewn better

The Tall Tent For You

Length and height can both come at a premium when picking the best tall camping tents. If you prefer to hike or camp solo, the focus should be on a tent that offers good length and convenient center height. Car campers can take more freedoms and look for a large tent or big cabin tent that goes tall and has a good length as well as enough height for standing up straight in the tent.
